Hi guys! I am from bristol. I just recently joined hoping to buy my first car and i dont have experiences in selecting one. I saw this and i like it:
AUDI S3 QUATTRO AUTO, 2011, Audi, A3, 12600, 5 doors, Hatchback, Automatic, Petrol, 1984, AUDI SERVICE HISTORY, Upgrades - Fine nappa leather upholstery with front bucket seats, Privacy glass, Adaptive xenon plus headlights with LED running lights + headlight washers, Audi Serviced, Standard Features - Satellite navigation, Isofix child seat anchor points, Passenger airbag, 3x3 point rear seat belts, Front armrest, Heated seats, Heated front seats, I Pod Conection. Remapped to 300 HP. £10,950.00

She already replied to my email and I dont know if Im looking at a bargain or a bad one.

Any thoughts?

Also, what else do I need to ask her? Thanks

You need full service history, who mapped it,what other mods(if any),and why is it so cheap?

Is it really an S3 for that price, and if so is it a Cat D or something like that?

Is that MY11 with 12,600 miles and buckets for less that £11k?

Something not right there!!

I'm with you on that.

It works out about 1/2 the price of a decent S3 of the same age from a dealer, and even allowing for private sale prices, something is VERY wrong there.

And what's all this about....

" AUTO, 2011, Audi, A3, 12600, 5 doors, Hatchback, Automatic, Petrol, 1984"

And is there a link to the ad?

yes a bit suspicious
may be a direct link to the actual advert might help

Think I found it.

Also has a Ford Transit van for sale.

Google the text from the ad above.

then also Google the email address in the full ad.

I feel the old advice ........ "if something looks too good to be true,it probably is"........ coming on.

Ah yeah got it - seriously weird place to advertise the car...

Definitely too good to be true unfortunately!

indeed , go down with a bundle of cash and get a whack on the back of head , avoid !

Looked a very odd place for a genuine S3 to be advertised, even if you ignore the price and the typos in the ad.

Tell her that she's won the Nigerian national lottery and can she send you the money to release funds first

Further to the above...

There's several ridiculously cheap S3s and an S4 from a dealer called the Chippenham Motor company....

http://www.autotrader.co.uk/services/car-dealers/uk/south-west/wiltshire/chippenham/chippenham-motor-company-chippenham-dpp-14233/page/2/sort/default/onesearchad/used,nearlynew,new/make/audi/dealer/14233/postcode/lu13sd/usedcars

If it's a typo(s), they need to sack someone...

If you check their actual website via google they don't list any Audis in their used car stock - plus the phone number on the autotrader isn't the same as on the website

Guessing its a rip off advert

Hi again! For some reason tapatalk did not give notifications so just read your responses. Thanks for the feedback. She is the only one responding with my queries. And here are her replies:

Hi again Jeremy

I am not able to sell the car in person, so I've arranged a very secure transaction through Optimal Payments. They are on the market since 1996 and they are authorized by the Financial Conduct Authority.
I have paid their fees, so they will ensure a successful transaction for both of us. In this way, you will not have to pay me in advance and you'll have the chance to check the car first.
The advert was placed locally, but I had to move the car to our Prince William of Gloucester Barracks from Lincolnshire because I wanted to keep it in a safe place until I find a buyer.
You can read about Optimal Payments on their official website: http://www.optimalpayments.com/our-business and I will get back to you with more info. Also, I've attached their terms and conditions.

Description:
Automatic, Petrol, 1984, WHITE, AUDI SERVICE HISTORY, Upgrades - Fine nappa leather upholstery with front bucket seats, Privacy glass, Adaptive xenon plus headlights with LED running lights + headlight washers, Audi Serviced, Standard Features - Satellite navigation, Isofix child seat anchor points, Passenger airbag, 3x3 point rear seat belts, Front armrest, Heated seats, Heated front seats, I Pod Conection. You can also check them on Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Optimal_Payments
The car will be delivered directly to your home address along with both keys, service records, v5c logbook signed by me and ready to be registered in your name. You can also check that the VIN printed on the v5c matches the VIN on the vehicle.
An advantage for you is that you will not have to pay me in advance, but Optimal Payments will provide a non-interest trust account managed by them, where you will secure the payment for the car. I can't access the money and I think this is fair enough for both of us. They will forward the funds to me only if you confirm that you have agreed to keep the car upon inspection.
Inspection period was set by Optimal Payments at 5 days. They said when purchasing a used car it's best to have a mechanic look at it, so 5 days is more than enough to arrange that. If you find issues that I did not say anything about, you will have the right to reject the car and ask Optimal Payments to refund the payment.
If you need more info please ask and if you are ready to move forward please let me know your full name, shipping address and a contact phone# and I will ask Optimal Payments to open a case for us.
They will contact both of us when the transaction will be started and they will instruct us how to proceed.
Kind regards,
Sarah

P. S: Sorry for the bunch of information but I had to explain you the whole process since I am not able to talk on the phone at the moment.

Also you have the right link 347! Did anyone use the Optimal Payments before? Never heard of it until now. She said they will deliver before I pay, I can inspect the car first with a mechanic so is that still a no go? Thanks for the feedbacks, I am really kind of confused.

Personally, there are so many things about this that I wouldn't be happy with that I'd walk away.

Have you contacted this person directly(I mean NOT via email) or verified them with their base?

And...they moved the car from a military barracks in Lincolnshire(where those barracks are situated) to Exeter,in what looks like a really secure parking lot near a field somewhere.

I can't think of many places safer to leave a car than a military barracks.

She said due to the new deployment in Germany she have to sell her car.

"I am a Medical Support Officer recently deployed in Bergen-Hohne, Germany. It's been a week since I've arrived here and my iPhone is still showing No Service".

I am now feeling this is some sort of a scam. I cant talk to her on the phone and I wont be able to see who is the seller in person. too bad I really like this and it is just in the border what I can afford. :(

Sorry mate.....this smells really bad.

Anonymous officer that you can't check on.
Can't speak to them as their phone shows "no service"(I've travelled to Europe and the US and never had that problem)
Payment via a net based transfer service....you deposit the money, and the money is held in account that the seller can withdraw from at some undetermined time.
Car is too cheap for any of us to believe.
Car originally in a military barracks but moved to Exeter to be more secure....purleeeease.

And....look at Optimal Payments business products,i.e.Netbanx and Neteller.

The first is designed to process net captured payments via cards, and the latter predominantly to transfer funds from online gambling firms.

Avoid. Exact same scam formula that's been going on since the Internet was born.

You have to admire the craftiness though......pitch something at a cheap price,so someone will bite, take pics of a genuine car(easy enough in a public car park) so that checks out,and then reel 'em in.

Im glad I found this forum first! Thanks for the feedbacks. Now moving on to look for other cars. I am looking for a used automatic car which is around 10k and wont give me headaches. I heard I should go for less mileage. Can you give any advice on a car reasonable to buy for 10k budget?

This is a well known scam, do a google for car scams and it will be right up there. You know what they say, if its too good to be true...........

massive scam, when selling on autotrader the popular buyer who happens to be on an oil rig offshore working for the government emails you saying how nice the car looks. You get a fake email showing how money has been transfferred into say a paypal account, and you then happily pay some transfer costs or something. Or my sister-in-law was duped just last year, and stupidly pay £50 to the 'buyer' who arranged for a pickup truck to collect as he was on this oil-rig. £50 was long gone.

basically anyone saying they're offshore, and requesting any form of electronic payment steer cleer.

Thanks for the infos! In a case like this, how do we know if it is really legit? ask for meet up to see the car and seller? go directly to where the car is? ask the police? DVLA? I dont even know if the seller is really a woman as the email address is willy.14.06@hotmail.com. haha

haha mickey.mouse@honestman.co.uk - some people will fall for it unfortunately. This and people allegedly ringing up from microsoft telling me I need to pay in order to remove a virus on my pc are shameless.

I've never bought privately, always from a large dealership. I know you could get a bargain privately if all is well and good, but I just don't trust people to take my hard earned ££. I'd rather pay that touch more to have the backing and legitimacey of buying from a dealer, should anything need resolving as proved the case with my own A3 (£2100 new clutch all sorted at no cost)
