Here is a badly taken photo of the lights

Hope someone knows what's wrong and it's not going to cost a bomb

The sensor that looks at the ABS ring could be faulty? Are all your pads good? Try hooking up VCDS and see what fault code it spits out, may help target your problem?

You need to try and communicate with the ABS controller, if it communicates you will have a fault stored if not youll need to replace it or get it repair its quite a common fault for them to go down, hopefully it just needs the reluctors cleaning as then it will be a cost free repair, as its FWD the pick up on the rear is on the disc on the rear as the bearing is built in, the fronts are on the drive shafts and can crack and increase the space between the pick up reluctors giving the abs controller a head ache thinking one wheel is going fast/slower than the others.

So basically clean all the pick ups and check the abs ring on the drive shafts and I will have to plug it into vcds to check if the abs controller is working won't I ?

Personally dont do anything until youve scanned it.

No communication = abs controller - fix = repair/used/new and coding

Communication = fault and necessary repair to that given sensor/part

Cleaning reluctors/sensors first is a waste of time that may not need doing in the first place.

Thats not the pad warning. Pad warning is yellow.

Red warnings are not for unimportant things like pad wear.

As mentioned, the red warning plus ABS light means theres a fault with the ABS system. Diagnostic scan with VCDS or similar is your next step.

So I was sick of the lad keep saying he was busy so I got my own program of vcds plugged it in and it came up with no faults but I couldn't scam my abs system it kept saying No response from controler I'm assuming the module had the broken wires am I correct?

Right ill check all the fuses before I take the module off Would a blown fuse being up the abs light and red flashing pad wear indercator ?

as said above the pad warning light should yellow. on the wife's polo I was getting the abs light on then a red symbol appeared and that was a warning light to say there was no signal from the abs controller

yes I would say so. I replaced the module on the polo after checking all the fuses. its also worth checking the connection at the module.
Im not sure on the A4 as touch wood ive never had the problem but you should hopefully find a diagram somewhere so you can check if its getting power to it.

Just a little update took the abs module off no wires broken also checked all the fuses. rang veedubs local German beakers yard see if they had any knowledge they said check the e board witch is located under the fuse box in the engine bay so that's my next place to look it's getting anoying it wasn't on all day yesterday but on today

You opened up the ABS module and checked the wires? Inside it's like the inside of a little microchip, with proper thin wires? You have to cut the front case panel off for access.

I have just had to get mine fixed, sent it off last week and refit on sunday and all seems great now! Apart from a dodgy sensor, but previously it would not connect to the ABS module at all, now it will.

Hope you get it sorted.

Just seen this, I replied to your thread Chriscooke, so check it out both and see if it helps?! Hope so!

It's really not a bad job to remove (an hour or two) and send it off for repair. And as far as I know, once it starts it's only going to get worse until it's always on.

£100 all in (Plus p&p for me to send it, but they pay the return). I sent it off Monday and it was in my hands Thursday afternoon, so very quick.

This is the eBay listing. There are some up there for cheaper, but I was sold on the video from this company.

I was going on the fact that if it was a crappy refurb, like I have read some people experience, it doesn't take too many sunday mornings to have wasted time taking it back out to send it back off again.

Thought i'd pay once and hopefully have it properly fixed.

It would be an idea to find the exact part number for your ABS module as it's a different car to mine, so may be different.
