I know there is a retrofit sub-forum, but that covers all models and I wanted to know if anyone had retrofitted DAB to their B8 with the MMi 3G (i think ours is the High version, has a build in HDD etc.)?

Last time I checked it wasn't a common modification, but as things move on I was hoping to find a suitable solution that doesn't require ugly stick on DAB aerials! In my S5 ('58) it took about an hour to retrofit a new antenna amp, a new box of tricks under the dash and make a few tweeks with VCDS and hey presto.

You need to change the radio module with a DAB version (you can find them on ebay for around £200 audi part number 4G0035061D) You will then need a wiring harness (try www.kufatec.co.uk) & aerial module and you will then need to take the car to Audi to have component protection removed and you may need to change the coding on the radio module to enable or disable the internal AMP depending on what sound system you have

I use the aerial in the rear window for my DAB. Where I live I've never had any reception problems, but when I went to the cotwolds reception was a bit intermittent but that could be normal. It's a pretty straight forward upgrade.

I've seen the kit on kufatec for under €500. That includes the aerial upgrade (think it's just the amp part, in the s5 this went on the c pillar), a loom and what I assume is the tuning box. Any ideas what it costs to get component protection removed?

I'm sure most dealers charge for 30min labor (what ever that is), but if you fitting the kufatec kit then you don't have CP issue as it does not replace your existing radio module it's just an addon.

Can anyone advise where these components fit? Am assuming the antenna module is on one of the pillars and the tuner is in the space behind left rear arch (I think that is where the mmi brains are?)

Is the antenna module an additional part, or a replacement? On the s5 it was a replacement, but looks like this may be an extra amplifier?

Reviving an old thread. I'm considering upgrading to dab as I may be able to get my hands on a cheap dab receiver. I checked my rear drivers c pillar and there is no current antenna amplifier unit solderd to the window element. So when upgrading to dab do I just run the fakra wire from the receiver, under the boot to the driver side and up to the c pillar where I fit the antenna amplifier and solder the wires to the points on the window?

I don't have Bose so I'm guessing still no amp required?

Then lastly coding wise I guess I'd have to code back to my non Bose setup with no amp if this unit came from a car that had it. And remove CP at dealer.

If anyone can chime in on the setup that would be great.

Just plugged in the dab receiver I managed to pickup on eBay for cheap. Seems to work fine, I just need to get the antenna booster and wire that in.

Does anyone know anyone not far from South London that could sort the component protection I'm near Dulwich way.

CT cars in Epson removed component protection for me, its was only £45, took 15 minutes.

Great thanks I'll give those guys a try. Heading down to Guildford this weekend so that might work out nicely.

I upgraded a Concert in my 2011 S4 to a same model Concert with DAB, bought a new VW Group aerial amp "AUDI A4 B8 2008-2015 AERIAL ANTENNA BOOSTER - DRIVER REAR - 8K5035225F" - the AC variant is also for DAB, but when I was looking the "F" version appeared first if I remember correctly that version also has TV which I did not connect, and a suitable FAKRA female - female cable, and as any cables I could find had "straight" connectors, the fitting that is inside the FAKRA plastic cage is just a standard SMB coaxial type, To keep the wiring as low profile as factory fit, I bought a angled male - female SMB coupler and connected the aerial amp end of the lead to that.
If you need to remove the rear seat base, then you will need to buy a couple of new seat base anchors as the originals will get destroyed on removal, 4L0 886 373 they are very cheap!
Connecting the aerial amplifier to the window heater was just a case of plugging in no soldering needed - although I can't remember the exact detail now.
Securing the aerial amplifier to the frame of the car - you will need to be creative as buying the correct fixing screw and snap in nut is not easy as they are only available in trade packs! Most DIYers will have something around that can be used I'd think.
