Someone must have experience doing this???

These are the parts I need:

5Q0907441 - control module
5N0827566C - camera (or equivalent)
wiring harness - APS Advance- Wiring Harness rearview camera Audi A3 8V-39648

Can anyone confirm that they've done this? I know Kufatec sells the complete kit, but I'm looking to get it done a bit cheaper.

Thanks for the help!

A place in St Albans area does it for £795 + VAT supplied and fitted that's for Rear Camera High, however on Kufatec there is fitting instructions would be good if someone had a copy so we could see what's needed.

Thanks, HM. I'm located in the US. Kufatec has the kit for about £500 and I'd just as soon do the install myself. I agree, if someone can share the Kufatec fitting instructions, that would be very helpful!

Is that with all the functions working? I notice several of the places selling online say that the guidelines are static rather than dynamic....

I think there are two flavours of rear camera, there is low which is basically just a camera with no guides shown on the screen. Rear camera high is the one which has the guide lines when parking, so when you turn the steering the guide lines change too.

I am still interested in trying to fit myself but would need to see the Kufatec instructions which unfortunately you can't get unless you buy the kit.

I think you can't have the OEM camera without parking sensors, and you need a new set of switches for the central console too with the parking sensor button present

My car has rear parking sensors already so think that is fine according to Kufatec and the place I spoke to in St Albans. But yes without rear parking sensors you would have to fit those too.

In Audi A3/S3 price list it says this;

Reversing camera. Shows camera image of area behind the vehicle shown on the MMI display, with dynamic display
modes highlighting the calculated path (steer-angle dependent). Includes auxiliary lines and guidelines, and
identification of the point at which to apply opposite lock when parallel parking. The rear-view camera is integrated
discreetly in the handle strip of the luggage compartment lid. Only in combination with Audi parking system plus, front
and rear with selective display (7X2), Audi parking system plus, with park assist (7X5) or Driver assistance package (PCE)

I think you guys may be mistaken about this.

You're referring to Audi configured options. Yes, they (Audi) will not let you purchase rear view camera without sensors.

Aftermarket, you can do whatever you like. The retrofit kit from Kufatec makes no mention of any sensor requirements.

I could be wrong, of course!

Thats correct I emailed Kufatec when I wanted instructions although they wouldnt help, they told me no PDC sensors required it can just be retro fitted and programmed accordingly.

Like you say Audi specify on factory options you must have in combination with certain items, not the case for retrofit.

No, but both activate at the same time and with the same button, so just wondered if the car expects there to be sensors when the rear camera is fitted, and might error if there isn't.

Though the text pasted suggests that you need both rear and front sensors for it (if it's not just a sales thing rather than technical thing).

Hello everyone.

I have had the rearview camera retrofitted to my A3 8V.
It wasn't easy, but we made it. I got an speciallist to do it.
We also did parkingsensors front and rear and cruisecontrol.
U can see the proces here: Audi A3 8V APS/GRA/Bakkam

Did you just retrofit the parking sensors and the Cruise Control or did you add the Auto Cruise and Auto Parking?

Good work. Might be the first. Was it all using original audi parts? Also how much did you spend on parts and labour?

Wow! A fantastic and neat retrofit job. Thanks for the detailed pictures.

Hello again, everyone :)

Thanks for the reply.
All parts are original. We did only fit PDC front and rear, Cruise control and Rearview camera.
Not automatic parking as i found it unnecessary.

The fitting was done by CarTrends.dk.
The owner, René Hansen is a friend of mine, therefor i didn't pay for labour.

Parts we're 9000 danish KR.
Which is about 1200 euro.

You can actually follow the process of my car here, if interested: VAGcars.dk - Vis emne - Villanyis 2013 Audi A3 1.4 TFSI Ambition 6/7 UPDATE!
I bought the car without much equipment, so the plan is to retrofit everything so i can use it as a showcar.
I'm a salesmen for Volkswagen so a lot of people see my car.

Best regards
Micki

Hey chaps...
Thought I would jump on this one.

We can now retrofit the Genuine Audi A3 Kit with OEM looms etc (Not Kufatec looms) with moving guidelines.

We're based in Poole, Dorset but have 23 engineers throughout the UK that do a lot of retrofits for us so location isn't really an issue but most people including ASN members like to drive down and see us!!

As with anything in this day and age, you get what you pay for. All genuine kit, nothing hooky from eBay and our installation is second to none. If you're keen and want to know more just PM or get in touch with us via the link below with your chassis number.

Oh and front & rear OPS :p

Cheers guys and gals x

Where did you buy the parts?

I've found two options of A3 (8V) rearview camera kits:

1. BKS Tuning / Kufatec (From US$890 - US$1,000). For example, http://www.kufatec.com/shop/en/audi...tchback-sportback-limo-complete?tab=anleitung

2. E-bay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/new-AUDI-A3...y-/181514423211?ssPageName=ADME:X:RTQ:US:1123

The kit from e-bay has a cheaper look, but it's way more affordable than Kufatec's. And the setup seems quite straightforward. I'm thinking of buying it. Has any of you seen it working?

I agree that the E-bay kit looks very easy (and cheap). I wonder if it's any good?!

Kufatec is standard Kufatec, will probably be genuine parts and then their own made looms. Should be fine.

The eBay kit I know the seller through AICT. We have done work with them before and we helped them try and produce an aftermarket kit for the 8P Audi A3 but they ended up developing for the 8V. Now they're quality is usually pretty good and so is support through my chap... I haven't tested it so can't comment on the quality and how it interacts with the car network.

My two cents is that it's pretty cheap at only £97 (At current conversion) plus import and shipping costs. Now I am not sure as a business a product that is that cheap I would risk it on a brand new A3 with warranty etc. Audi would definitely get huffy especially as it probably wouldn't communicate fully with VAS. I might get one in to test in the future but for now I wouldn't fit it to somebody's vehicle.

I have loads of genuine 8V RVC kits coming in from Germany next week along with OPS systems which is exciting...

Just remember this is your car, if you go cheap then there is the possibility that it could bit you on the backside. You get what you pay for! Nigel and Danny and Jonny will back me up on this all the way!!

Morning guys!

Following on from my previous post at the tail end of last month we've now fully launched the A3 / S3 Genuine Reversing Camera Retrofit!
http://www.advanced-incar.co.uk/audi-retrofits/audi-a3-s3-8v-reversing-camera-retrofit

A few people have already got involved and we have an ASN member popping down to see us tomorrow to get one sorted for his beauty.

If you want anymore info or to get something sorted, just fire me a quick PM :)

Tim

Your site mentions 2 parking modes... but there are 3 when you have the towbar installed, towing mode! Puts a single line (that moves with the steering) in the middle so you can line it up with a trailer and reverse up to it.

Well if there is a third and you have a genuine OEM towbar fitted then there would be no reason it wouldn't be displayed.

We very rarely work on vehicles that have tow-bars and never done an A3 with a tow-bar. But like I said our kit is genuine, direct from Germany so should work with no issues as it's only coding that allows for that 3rd option. If you don't have a tow bar then there would be no need to code it.

I'm sure said member coming down tomorrow will pop some pictures up once it's all done :)

This is happening right NOW

...how's the coding coming fellas
(this is still pretty much live)

lol glad I added it into my spec whilst ordering for only £270

Didn't I see one of them on Crimewatch? :jump:

So after whats been a very busy week of retrofits and two other Rear View Cameras on an Merc A45 AMG and a Audi Q3 we thought we were firing on all cylinders and were excited to get Monopole down in his beast of an Audi S3. It is something...

We got all the kit installed beautifully and looking OEM but hit a block when it came to coding the 6C Back-Up module (The other modules coded fine). It wouldn't accept any of the coding we threw at it, even though we could communicate fully with it. After a phone call to Germany it has led us to believe that it's going to require online ODIS activation which is a bit of a bummer (We were told we wouldn't need this from the boys over there). Monopole unfortunately had to leave us for the day with all the kit in but not working. We were truly gutted as we were really excited to get it installed and working for him to show off on ASN. We also really hate letting people down!!! He's a really nice chap that got stuck in and involved with questions and what we were doing. It's always nice to get somebody whose just as interested in what we do as we are!

Hopefully we'll get our ODIS sorted asap and then hook up with Monopole to get the job done and dusted!!

Tim

No worries and I didn't come away feeling anything but confident in you guys. I have played with VCDS and coding so understand the difficulties in getting modules to play nicely!

The physical work done by James was in no doubt top notch and he completed a very professional install but can feel his pain at not being able to walk away with the system fully functional at this time.

Some more pics of the day..
