I think my clutch is starting to intermittently slip under load, im not fully sure but I reckon it is as the revs sometimes spike up asif the car is wheelspinning etc.

As the car is running stage 1, is it generally good practice to go for uprated clutch when replacing or will a new stock clutch kit be just as suitable as the torque etc doesnt exceed the stock clutches limits? This clutch is at 82k now from new so has never been replaced.

It's upto you really, but if your in there why not upgrade now as apose to upgrading later when stage 1 is no longer enough?
At 82k you would be looking at a dual mass fly wheel aswel, so ideally I would throw out the dmf for an smf and go for a stage 1/2 daily or endurance clutch. Even if you went stage 2+ in the future you would always be inside the torque limits. Which means it will last and you can give it some without worrying if it will let go.
If you go standard again, your always going to be stepping over the torque limits even at stage 1, this meaning faster wear on the clutch meaning you'll need another one sooner.... That's IMO though..

If I went stock again with DMF...although it would need doing sooner than an uprated one... are we talking maniac driving here or just daily driving? As I just dont drive hard much at all so will it be worth uprating? im definitely not going stage 2 and will likely be getting a new car after the 3 year mark anyway ive had it a year nearly already. Secondly, funds are part of the issue lol. Ive been quoted £630 for replacement stock parts inc DMF and labour, without VAT. i dont like cars. lol

The stage 1 map will dramatically reduce the life of the clutch as it was never designed for the torque. You'll probably find it will be around 270lbft. The standard torque is 220lbft ish. You might put a standard one in and never get an issue, but on the other hand, you might smoke it in a week. Either way your outside the limits of the standard clutch. Everyone who has ever mapped a standard car on here has always ended up posting about the clutch slipping. Your choice mate.

Was planning on buying this just now. Before I hit the button, does anyone wish to throw any negatives on sachs xtend clutches that would make it a wrong choice?
Im told it will withhold around 30% - 40% extra power than OEM stock torque ratings which would more than cover the increased torque that is on the remap atm. so it makes sense to me and its fits my car.

30-40% doesn't really mean anything. What you need to know is what the maximum input torque is from Sachs. I wouldn't buy anything until you know for certain, otherwise you may as well just get a standard clutch.

well according to that its about 300lbft torque. What confused me is I emailed AMD essex and they said stag1 and 2 remaps shouldnt need an uprated clutch at all for the stock clutch on these cars.
talk about conflicting views across the whole forums. I just gave in and bought the clutch.

Not to be funny but its common logic if you going to stress a motor more and put more power through the clutch the standard clutch wont handle it. And to be quite honest of course amd essex will give you that information because when the clutch goes again you can buy another from them typical business knowledge were they offer you a stock clutch because thats a quick sale were as craig will advise you as he knows and has experience with it and isn't there to rob you of your pounds. Just because they have the big name behind them doesnt mean they have common technically sense like craig does. People like him and myself deal with this sort of stuff in the real world daily they may to but one is market and money driving the other isnt.

With regards to the forum being conflicting, its not actually if you dont know by know who to listen to and who not then. You never will learn sadly and will just fall for the same mistakes.

Nothing personal just the truth.

Best to get a good clutch and be done with it, no point going stock as you guys said. My SRE clutch feels like it's starting to slip  hoping I'm imagining things or it's something else though else that's £1000 down the pan.

gio i agree I wasnt tryign to belittle anyone or state they were wrong! I have bought a sachs uprated clutch which is better than stock so ill see what that does. Gonna have to get the chain tensioner done soon too!

I understand mate. Was just getting the message across as a whole. And you better get on that chain tensioner otherwise the clutch will be the least of your worries...

300lbft should be fine, but I know some tuners manage to see 320lbft on a k03 turbo. Some even more.
Are you changing the dual mass flywheel as well? If not I would strongly recommend it while your in there. Or even better, loose the dual mass all together. Atleast that way you know you won't need to go back in there again. As gio said, get that chain done ASAP,. I realise I was meant to quote you on that but I'm stacked out at the moment. Did you want a quote on the clutch aswell? Or have you got that sorted? If so, just a price on the pick up pipe, chain and tensioner?

Hi mate. Clutch AND dmf are being fitted together up in manchester when I next go so thats sorted.
So yeah just pickup, chain and tensioner. :)
