So I was doing 60 down a country lane (a straight bit promise) and this ****** bird runs out from a bush. Lucky my front grill was feeling hungry and decided to eat it, just had a bit of a problem digesting it.

End result: Replacement front grille and realignment of ACC. Not a happy bunny (or pheasant).

Yeah it's had a few laughs from my friends on Facebook. Yeah when it hit I thought it had gone under the right wheel, had no idea it was stuck in there.

Nope it came like that on the saloon. It has a tinge of red right now though...

Want to see a close up of the damage?

I'm quite surprised that the car didn't take more damage. Anyone have any experience with the costs of a new grill and ACC realignment?

Hit one the other year whilst test driving my current focus st estate. 2 days before pickup was told that the fog light bracket was knackered and a new bumper was on order.

Same thing happened to me in the Golf. Hit the bird on a corner doing about 30-40. I drove another mile and pulled over to see if there was any damage. The flippen bird was stuck in the grill and still alive! I released it's wing and it ran off. Never thought to take a photo :(

Was quoted £120 for a new lower grill. Pulled the plastic back in place and no one would notice. Though I see the paint is coming off around the damage. :(

Mmmmm....leave it there a few days, then cook slowly.

Just be thankful it wasn't a badger.

A while back,I had the misfortune to collect one someone else had run over and clobbered this poor(and thankfully dead) animal.which made a hell of a noise as it went under the car.

Cracked a seriously expensive carbon splitter, and the steel undertray and diff guard dealt with the rest.

Couldn't find any remains, but I can't imagine badgers taste good anyway.

Oh wow it was still alive! Makes you think about those "if you hit me at 30" adverts. I guess it hit the 80% survival rate lol.

£120 isn't too bad, however I think Audi will probably hike up the price. I might see if I can fit it myself and just buy the genuine part from somewhere. The white mark on the photo which looks like paint wear is actually bits of feather; fortunately the paint work is still absolutely fine.

Definitely glad it wasn't a badger (although the government might have paid me for getting rid of one!) Which car did you have the carbon splitter on? That must have been very expensive like you said!

Roadkill recipes thread? :sour:

ACC radar realignment and checks cost about £55 on the invoice when my mate's Golf R went in to have it done under warranty because it was not working at all well from the factory. He didn't pay as it was warranty work, but that seemed to be the cheap warranty work chargeable rate - i'd add about 40% on to that for the public rate. It was about an hour's work, but you might be needing a new bracket too if it's been irreversibly bent beyond adjustment (looks quite straight in the photo).

Thanks for the info. I was imagining £100 for the work. I was told that it was approximately £200 for the new grille so in total a £300 job. I'll try and negotiate down as they're fixing my rear seat belt under warranty at the same time.

Ex GpN Escort Cosworth Vs badger carcass

They are really big solid animals, but luckily this was already dead, and the Escort had steel undertrays from it's rallying days.

Can't see the crack on this, but it was a fairly decent "chin" on the car!

Was obviously wanting to have a closer look at your car :)

I hit a full grown Deer in the late 80's in a brand new works car. Wrote the car off and the deer died instantly. My mate who was front seat passenger shat himself, but I didnt but nearly did! lol

Fortunately the deer never came thro' the windscreen. Pretty scary stuff!

Unfortunately for me, it was quite near Christmas when the accident occurred and I got the p**s ripped out of me for killing Rudolph! lol

Bl**dy hell!

I'm not surprised.....those are seriously large.

Friend of mine when working in the States had one jump out of the roadside into their car.....as with yours,it was a write-off,but some rednecks rolled up soon after, towed her car back to civilisation and took the deer for a BBQ.

Haha couldn't have happened at a worse time of year. At least it was works car and not your own.

On a separate note, bet you're looking forward to getting your S3 saloon! What spec did you get?

Hey that's not a bad spec, I wish I'd got folding mirrors! Have you been charged for the magnetic ride? Mine came as standard.

Oh believe me I was upset about killing a pheasant.

However I'm sure the whole pheasant community in the east of Surrey is now aware that when they hear a 300bhp 2lt TFSI coming along the road at 60mph they shouldn't cross.

Who's going to be sympathetic to the pheasant that's just handed this guy a probable £500+ bill? The species itself only exists to be shot and/or eaten by people.

We are just home from the pub, so I should not be typing this, but here goes...

He's not a pheasant plucker, he's the pheasant pluckers son and he's only plucking pheasant's till the pheasant plucker comes.

s3 is a beast that's why! And Beasts need to eat too!
So true! Unfortunately beast food is costing me £520 for the grille and installation :(
How can they charge £159 for an hours labour? That's totally insane! Porsche only charge £120

Do you mean they're going to grill(e) the ****** pheasant? I guess that's the justification of the cost because they've got to employ Gordon Ramsay to do it. ;)

Just be thankful it wasn't a bull!

This was a brand new Golf R, the driver hit it at 100km/hr.
