A3 1.4 Tfsi Tuning Box?

Diesel tuning uk have a box for the 1.4 tfsi, they are a site sponsor too.

Search for member ABYSS, he's the man to talk to.

I'd stay away from something as cheap as that. If you search through the forum you will find a few threads on a tuning box for the 1.4

I wouldn't bother with a tuning box TBH, go for a remap by Rick@Unicorn Motor Development. He's developing an OBD flasher that will give the adjustability of a box in terms of switching maps. A proper remap is far superior to a tuning box IMHO.

I am waiting for one for my car with the self programming flasher, oh that sounds naughty :D

I would love to get a remap, the only problem is I would like to be able to take it out when possible. With a remap i believe audi will know what ive done when it goes to service with them?

When you re-flash the ECU with the original map the TD1 flag will be removed. The personal flasher will have the original map on it, so should be an easy job to switch the car back to stock.

Once you understand the parameters that are changed with a remap compared to those in a tuning box you wouldn't even consider a box.

PM Rick@Unicorn Motor Development and he can give you a bit more info. Before he remapped my car I didn't think there was much difference between a remap and a box, but after he explained it to me it was extremely eye opening to say the least! Remap every time is my advice.

Also meant to say that with Rick's remap he doesn't need to remove the ECU to unlock it, so there's no physical evidence of it being tampered with. Up until recently the only way to remap was to actually remove the ECU, but Rick's found a way around it.

I used to change the remap back to standard on my focus when it went in for a service, and when I sold it, using the superchip bluefin device. I have still got it but superchip haven't got a map out for my engine yet. If the do I might well send the device back to them to have it reprogrammed for £225. Still all the previous talk about remaps causing a TD1 to be flagged up now seems to have been a load of rubbish and I as said at the time someone would be able to bypass the anti-tamper and the TD1 eventually, which it seems they have...

This is a useful thread - I too have a 1.4 TFSI 122ps A3 and have been looking at remapping/DTUK Box/Bluespark Box. Not sure about remapping - probably because I haven't been able to read much about it, whereas I have read quite a bit on the 2 boxes. Which of the 2 boxes is best, I do not know - they both quote similar power/Torque boosts - just not sure on the accelaration improvements. Out of the box my car does 9.4 secs 0-100kmph - what can be expected with one of these units? Currently I get between 42 & 55 mpg. Again what improvement can be achieved. Has anyone fitted such a device to this engine yet?

theres also TMC which claims more power and torque figures. I'm thinking of getting one soon since there aren't any tuners i would trust with my car here in egypt

An update................

Just over a week ago, I fitted a TMC Motorsport Tuning Box to my 1.4 TFSI 122ps A3 - I looked seriously at both the DTUK and TMC boxes and wrote to both companies with various questions before deciding which route to go. Having tried to find reports/reviews about the Bluespark box and couldn't, I discounted it.

I went with TMC Motorsport a. because it quoted slightly higher power & torque figures and b. more importantly, Daron from TMC responded much sooner than DTUK and seemed more interested in what I was contemplating. He was on the phone before and after installation and has kept in touch since.

Installation was quite easy although removing the two engine covers for the first time was not as easy as it looked - 20 mins to work out removal. After that another 10 minutes had everything completed - see photo

TMC Tuning Box

Having installed when the petrol tank was over 1/2 full of standard 95 Ron Petrol, I was slightly sceptical whether I would immediately feel any benefit. I was wrong! Low engine speed torque was improved, necessitating fewer gear shifts and the power higher up the rev range could be felt. I tested it thoroughly last week to and from work - 17 miles each way on rural roads giving several overtaking stretches and I have to say I am impressed. Last Thursday, I filled up with Super Fuel and yesterday went to Hull and back, again on rural roads a distance of 45 miles each way, with two passengers and accelaration relatively to when running without the box, was very good indeed. Fuel economy wise, I was returning between 42 and 55 mpg on std petrol without the box - I was getting 45 - 58.5, again on std petrol with it fitted. Since moving to Super fuel, I have installed an app on my phone to monitor MPG but it is too early yet to say - yesterday going to Hull and back, I was revving quite hard in higher revs to try it out (much to the annoyance of my passengers - an excuse used was to pull away from tail-gaters!) and expecting very low forties, if not into the high thirties; on the dash I got 42.8, which considering the up and down nature of the wolds and winding roads, I thought was very good indeed. Going to work tomorrow, and going steadily, I expect to get over 58, easily.

A pleasant suprise was that the box comes with a "jumper-plug" which when fitted, to the loom (where it usually plugs into the box) returns the car to it's initial state without having to remove the box and/or wiring. Just wish I could now have the car tested to see what it's power and Torque curves look like on paper but I don't know anywhere locally (Scarborough area). BTW I have left the box in "position-6" the factory default - not sure what would happen if I turned it to position 7!

Finally a question - I have stalled buying the Pedal Box as I'm really not sure what benefit this would bring - could someone tell me please in layman terms whether getting one of these would improve performance still further?

Hope this is of some interest to other 1.4 TFSI 122ps A3 owners - my car was bought new at the beginning of April.

Great write up, but I'm still hesitant to get it since fuel quality here isn't great at all. Hopefully when I actually do have the money for it I'll have decided on getting it :D

Interesting right up, I myself have the 1.4 122bhp version but would love to see before and after on a dyno. The 'feel' of the difference can be in someone's head when things like these are installed. Get it on the dyno do some before and after! quick quick! :)

I knew someone would say that! I'm not making any of this up - Daron offers a 30-day no quibble returns policy. But if I knew where to take my car then yes, as previously stated, I would be prepared to have it dyno checked - not for my benefit but for others who don't like taking the plunge first without concrete info :)

What were you expecting? I assume you know temps here in England are significantly lower than in Egypt? 7.5/8.0 degrees celcius at the time of testing - presumably over 40 where you are ? Lol!

Sorry, ignore my post - I misread your post - thoughtyou were referring to mpg, not quality - mh apologies.

It's like that in the summer but right now its around 14 to 17 degrees Celsius. I still don't know what that has to do with fuel quality? Gas stations here, due to a long line of corruption in governing, sell 92 ron and advertise it as 95 ron and 86 ron as 92. I know that because my previous car had engine problems and the dealer took samples of the fuel
