1.8t quattro.... After a normal 5 mile drive the top of my bonnet will be very very warm, I couldn't keep my hand on the warmest part for longer than 2 secs..... The warmest part being left hand side of the engine cover as I look down... Is this normal????

Well if you had heat insulation, all the heat you felt on the hood would have stayed in the engine compartment, increasing your IAT and making your engine run worse. I know for sure some 1.8T's came with that heat insulation, but I think it's only useful if the temps go waaay below 0.

My 1.8t had one fitted when i got it but it was damaged so i removed it but the heat never affected the running of the motor in anyway, my mates 2.0tfsi also had one straight from the factory. I will fit another before next summer but not in any hurry at the moment pal.

Thanks guys, just a bit worried about the heat in general.... Gauge says just above 90, but you could fry an egg on the bonnet.... Is it the turbo that causes the heat??

The TFSI's have it because they're noisy as hell. Even with it, you can still hear the injectors from inside.

Would personally take it off and live with the noise (although I like how the car sounds).

I'm no expert pal but it certainly is the area on the bonnet above the turbo where mine gets the hottest :(
