Whats your thoughts on a Milltek cat back resonated system for my avant .... worth it or waste of cash ? and is their a big noise difference from the standard system which i think sounds quite good as it is. Anyone on here got one fitted.
Any help appreciated guys

When I bought my S4 secondhand at just over two year sold and one owner from new, it came complete with a Milltek resonated cat back exhaust, so while I can't comment about sound over factory exhaust, it has a bit of noise at low revs and high load - probably can avoid that by driving differently, ie as it should be! For me it was the single big ovals at each side rather than the smaller twins that does it for me ( twin outlets each side good/logical of V8 but for V6 ??? just to follow S* looks - why?), plus there will be a weight saving!

Thanks for your input buddy , i'm the other way prefer the twin pipes lol ... i just think the large ovals are too RS looking which is not a bad thing just that i want to keep car as factory looking as possible. Been looking at vids on you tube on both the resonated and non-resonated and thats why i ask as there doesnt seem to be much difference in sound from the standard exhaust to the resonated system. Love the sound of the non-resonated but dont know if i could live with that all the time unless someone could tell me its not so loud when your inside the car lol

Oh, I would not like to be thought as pretending to have an RS, that is not on - also, one big black oval is easier to clean that two chromed pipes. This car was sold as having a "sports exhaust" and it came with the normal period of free Audi insurance - I checked up about getting Audi insurance when my (already running) insurance expired, looked okay for standard car but a BIG NO for alternative exhaust etc, now I wonder what would have happened if I had trashed it in the initial period when it had complementary Audi insurance?

Never meant it like that buddy , if mine came with a large oval milltek i would have been over the moon lol. Just my thoughts when comparing the two choice of tailpipes and yes it will be easier to clean but i religously clean my pipes every week haha so they dont really get that dirty.

No offence taken, just my sense of humour(?), I remember admiring the exhaust pipes of a Lotus Carlton when I was picking up my Cav GSI 2000 4X4 back in 1992, at that time I never thought that I'd end up with a car with almost the same sized pipes!

Likewise, I bought my S4 with a resonated Milltek system installed. The sound level is very similar to stock, and you won't see any performance gains with an exhaust system on this car, so I wouldn't bother with it TBH. I swapped mine to a non-res almost immediately and now it sounds absolutely gorgeous. You can finally tell it's a V6, with that gorgeous worble-come-howl, and the S-Tronic *crack* on upshifts now sound immense. There is some resonance at motorway speeds though sadly, but it's just about liveable for me.

If you're after a little more sound try the X-pipe. I have no experience with this but for that money it's worth a go. A proper job would be to install the Milltek Valvesonic system - best of both worlds. Very expensive though sadly.

Yes thanks mate , ive ordered the non-res Milltek . Wasnt looking for any gains tbh but i dare say this system will benefit the future plans i have for the car like remap , pulley and belt for supercharger and an air intake system ;-)

It can't hurt, but honestly an aftermarket exhaust makes no difference with this car. At the AudiSRS.com RR day recently I ran back-to-back with another B8 S4 with the same state of tune (MRC stg2), the other car with a stock exhaust. His ran 40bhp more than mine (495bhp), partly to due to preferred fuel (V-Power vs. Momentum) and the higher rev limit allowed by his transmission (S-Tronic vs. Manual).

Hope you're not too disappointed with the resonated system, but you can always swap to the non-res simply by replacing the rear sections - they are straight-through pipes on the non-res and a doddle to fit with two people and a jack.

It's the non resonated I've ordered buddy
