Hey

This might sound silly but for one reason or another I had to buy a car from one of the big non dealership companies .. The plates advertise this fact and it feels grubby ... Can I get main dealer plates made or can I get plain ones done somewhere ... Its the litle things

Cheers

I wouldn't bother with the dealer plates, just order some off the internet.

I always get mine from www.demonplates.com - costs about 30 quid for a set of plates. There are cheaper places but some of them only sell "show plates" which aren't 100% legal.

Or just go to Halfords, but then the plates will say "Halfords" on the bottom of them...

got mine off Aplates on ebay, £15 for the set I think, plain and fully road legal (manufacturer postcode and BSAU number)

On a similar note does anyone know the legalities of pressed plates? I seem to see different opinions etc..!

I got ebay pressed plates and they were shockingly *****. I then got 'proper' plates from Audi dealership and am happy with normal plates. Doesn't matter where you get them from, if you want them fully legal then they will contain the info bout the place you bought them from. This info and the BS number are a legal requirement on that kinda plate. However, as you know you can buy from anywhere and get plates with the correct legal font, spacings, etc. that may not have any 'maker' info on them and they will be fine unless you meet an unbelievably strict officer of the law or MOT man in a bad mood.

Had no problems with my pressed plates from ebay.

Lettering can be 3D, background must be reflective.
I've never had the pressed metal ones so can't say whether the metal is a "reflective material" as such.

Halfords plates are excellent - the required information such as their postcode etc is in tiny tiny see through writing so from a distance of 1ft+ they look totally plain

Pressed plates are fine so long as the font and spacing comply and the background is reflective. Had a number of traffic police tell me the plates are illegal quoting BSAU 145d and that it states plastic construction. I have read and reread the document and can find no reference to construction material.

Does anyone know where you can get a plate made online where it has the clear acrylic finish on top of the plate? I've had some made before online and they were quite poor quality without the acrylic.

Halfords plates, totally plain in the sense that all of the legal requirements are reflective and cannot be seen unless very close up.

I've had some number plated from Halfords recently and they don't have Halfords logo on the bottom. I'd pop into you local Halfords and have a look. If I remember right they were £23 a set

Maybe when UK gets its final kicking about not complying fully with EU agreed "design" of car etc identification plates, the pressed plates will be the default item. Though it is easier to clean these horrible plastic ones though it is just that they degrade so quickly and are too thick and wrong size to fit the German interface mounting.

As said already, any Audi dealer will only too happy too supply plates and get their name on to your car.

Other way round just short of £32 quid :)

Have found the following company www.fourdot.co.uk - has anyone used these guys to date. Seem to have nice some smart ideas for dressing up a normally boring area of any car?
