I decided ages ago that if I'm ever going to replace my 8L S3, the replacement needs to have 300bhp minimum out the box, though I would consider something with under 300bhp, so long as it can do 0-60 in under 5secs! Not looking likely I'm going to be selling it soon though anyways....

But I'm adamant that my next car, whatever it is, will have 6 cylinders minimum. I think I will be disappointed to own another 4-pot next, I need a V6 or V8 in my life! lol

I agree 6 cylinders would be pretty great. Although 5 would be fine too!

Im going to go one of 2 ways, either something nice and fast, with a bit of scope for upgrades. Or something a bit more luxurious but with a oil burner under the bonnet

I had my first six-cylinder engined car in 1994, a Cavalier 2.5V6. That was followed by a Vectra with the same engine (horrid car in every respect, except that beautiful engine). When I got rid of it, it was to buy my first Audi, a B5 A4 1.8. Whilst I loved the A4, and it proved to me that I wanted to own Audis for the foreseeable future, the return to a four-cylinder engine was a massive mistake. The difference in mechanical refinement between the two is vast. Since then, I've had a B5 2.8 quattro, a B6 2.4SE and the present B7 3.0TDi.

So I guess my answer to this question is easy. My next car (and every car I own until I die) must have a minimum of six cylinders. Lots of other things too, but I won't even get out of bed if there are fewer than six pots under the hood.

Diesel engine, Torsen centre diff, manual gearbox.

Unfortunately it seems I've had it; C6 looks like it'll be the last of 'em :(

And inbuilt satnav and an auto just cos I'm getting lazy as I get older

FIVE pot with DSG and Quattro, 3-doors, and ZERO glam/bling/badges/etc.
LOADS and loads of torques...
A sunshine roof would be nice as I so miss the one in my 8L S3

So going on my promise approx. 14 months ago, I finally did it! OK, it's not a replacement for the S3 as such, but it has 6 cylinders and over 300bhp!, and I'm very happy with it. :)

More details in the thread below.

Got myself a BiTurbo! :)

Im doing neither of the 2 things i said! After Christmas i'll be on the hunt for a b8 S4. Kinda a mixture of the 2 really, not so interested in modifying it apart from a set of wheels and springs.

Got 6 cylinders, so staying with a minimum 6.
My next car will have an S or RS in front of the number.
