Rattling Noise...

That sounds like it might be related to your dual mass flywheel

I'd second what Vex182 has said above.

In order to determine the DMF had gone in my car, I had the car on some ramps with the iginition on and pressed/released the clutch whilst my mechanic was under the car. He heard it was definitely coming from the gearbox area and so was clutch/flwheel related as the noise dissapeared when the clutch was pressed down.

Wish it was a loose heat shield as those flywheels and the labour to fit it isn't exactly cheap!
