Hi all,

As stated in post name, when I put my keys in the ignition and turn one click I get a strange whining coming from somewhere around fuel rail/starter motor or somewhere. It lasts about 10 seconds and then stops? Then if I go to turn the engine over I just get a click?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers guys!

Tracing back over my steps, I did disconnect the battery and reconnect when the keys were in the ignition, could this have caused something strange to happen?!

Would that cause a whine when I put the keys in? It's been stood for about 6 months but I charged the battery on a slow charge for 48 hours last week, never had any battery troubles with it before.. You reckon the battery is bust?

It could be the fuel pump priming the lines? Hard to say without hearing the actual noise. Or could be the starter motor if it's a loud noise. Try and locate the two components and listen in to that area.

Id say the whining is maybe throttle body alignment. Does it sound like this..

Mine does it when you put the key in the ignition sometimes.

^^^ that is exactly the noise. I left the battery unplugged for half an hour and reconnected and now it starts, but it's still making that noise for 10 - 15 seconds when I put the key in the ignition and turn one click.. What causes it??

Pretty sure its normal, you just cant normally hear it with the bonnet down and the doors closed. Someone can correct me if im wrong but mines done it since ive had it.

Throttle bodies only realign with bonnet open.
Also, if your charger doesn't have a built in cut off/trickle, then 48 hours at full pelt would ruin your battery :(

Ahh that makes sense.
And yes it was on trickle the whole time until the amps it was sucking went down to just above 0. I think the battery is OK. It seems that the problem with the started motor was because I disconnected and reconnected the battery with the ignition set to ON which probably confused some things, and resulted in not turning over. Maybe cam shaft position sensor or something? I don't really know. But as I say, it seems to be OK now.
Why does the throttle body only realign when the bonnet is open?

Guess it doesnt need doing everytime and needs to be done with no input from pedal, so unless you drive with bonnet up, it's a safe bet :)
