Has anyone done a DIY oil change on their diesel 8V? Mine is now 6 months old and the oil is going dark. I'm going to keep the car a very long time and want to do regular oil changes without paying dealer rates... Is it an easy job?

I would have thought so, same as any other car surely?

All diesel cars oil goes dark within minutes of 1st usage, so don't base the oil/service change needed because of this, mileage is the best denominator.

Easy to do yourself, just have a go, take your time and learn I say.

Thanks guys. I'm a pretty competent DIY mechanic so not afraid to have a go - just wondered if there were undertrays to remove and 'Audi specific' sump plug tools required etc... Nothing would surprise me these days... The oil has only just started to go dark after 6 months and by no means black but still, clean new oil is definitely better for an engine than black carbon particle rich gloop that's done 20,000 miles before a change!

There is an under tray but only a few screws to remove, usual spanner for sump plug. Buy a metal one from Audi if you need to. May need a tool to remove the filter lid, I just used some large grips.

That's very strange & welcome news, that its only gone darker now, every diesel car I've worked on has been black as your hat within seconds tbh, but I never leave my car past 10k tbh before a change.

Does anybody know the price for the 9k oil change? Or is it just the same as an interim service? They never sorted the fixed 3yr service plan when I picked the car up. so they are offering me that. Is is worth it?

Did a an oil and filter change on my 184 quattro yesterday at 4.5k miles. Glad I did - the oil was really black already. Even more glad I had access to a four post lift at a local garage - access to the filter housing isn't easy and made worse by cables/plumbing which pass right underneath the cover so they have to be unclipped and pulled aside... The experienced mechanic helping me wasn't very impressed with the design!..
