Looking to buy a cat-back exhaust for my a3 was thinking about getting a non resonated, but I remembered my mate had a cat back cobra non resonated exhaust on his new Festia which was unbelievably loud and at the time I thought it wasdecated but it wasn't,
I don't mind a nice loud one but not too loud that it gives you a headache and it's impossible to drive?

I have a turbo back non resonated milltek with sports cat on the S3.
Normal driving and motorway driving I don't notice it. Open the taps on full boost and omg it sounds sweet. Thats on stage 2 though.

Stage 2 how much break you pushing out now?! But does a sports cat make a difference?

I bought the car with the exhaust on but on standard tune.
The car was roughly putting out 280 (as opposed to 265 standard) using vcds to log airflow.
Now I would expect it to be around 320-330.
Standard tune though the exhaust was noticeably louder on boost but not obtrusive and tbh at the time I didn't even know it had a milltek on lol

Jaysond -you could go for the non res version and if you decide it is too loud then you could buy the res box seperately to quieten it down. I recently fitted the res version but found it too quiet. Then went non res so now have the res box section for sale. 2007 A3. Just a thought.

Isit only back box that makes it different then? Because that's what I'd probably do! Same as you! How do you find your res box on motorways?

Having fitted the resonated cat back it was too quiet and not far off OEM. Changing the middle res box to through pipe (non res) made a good difference. Louder with more burble. I now am happy. Selling the resonated centre box seems like a mission though. Thought it would have been easier to be fair.
On A roads and motorways you do notice a little noise or drone but not ott. As many say just make the radio louder. I quite like the drone.

I'd say if you intend changing the downpipe at a later date then go for a resonated which will be quiet until you change the downpipe but then will sound good.
If your only going catbsck then non resonated sounds good. If you add a downpipe to a non resonated it drones on the motorway at anything above 65 mph.

My turbo back non res milly doesn't drone one bit. Maybe its because it's been on a while and its coked up inside but definitely no drone

I'm always flat out - so I never hear a drone. Just boost, and sirens and pretty lights :jester:

I have a full miltek non res on my tdi 2l stage2 it sounds great not too loud and the turbo is a lot louder making it sound more like a performance car rather than tractor but only issue i found is the boot and bumper keeps sooting up near the tail pipe. A mate who works at a tuners said because i have fitted a non cat exhaust the car needs adjusting for the lack of back pressure? i am going to look into it.

By downpour do you mean the section between the cat and the engine itself?
