Evening, first A6 2.5TDI but not my first Audi diesel.

I'm having one or two issues, it feels lacking in first and second at times.

In 5th & 6th gear, sometimes it will feel flat, (bit like limp mode) but if i let off the throttle and reapply, it pulls well.

Sometimes, it pulls better in 5th & 6th at 1/4 throttle rather than full throttle.

Also, the abs/traction light goes on and off intermittently, as does the temp gauge, it works and doesnt work at the drop of a hat, on the motorway, it will drop off and a few minutes later, it will fly back up to 90 again and stay there. I know this isnt thermostat related as its instant and the car gets upto temp just fine, i know this because the heaters roast my hands.

What i've noticed, is when the temp gauge or traction light come on and go off, the car instantly feels flat, but letting off and reapplying the throttle gives it its power, (or most of it)

Could be a co-incidence, but when sometimes, on the motorway, if i turn the heater on or off, the traction light illuminates.

So i have a little bit of a merry go round of issues here, all niggling little things but i feel they are connected somehow.

Ive only had the car a week and need to read up on setting vagcom up etc, i have the vagcom lead but deleted it off my system few years back when i sold my A4.

Any other suggestions would be great, thanks in advance for your help. Pilla.

The symptoms you describe with the temp gauge is a faulty temperature sender. Of course it affects the engine. When the engine is 90 degrees and the ecu "sees" it at 10 degrees or lower, it increases the fuel rate to warm the engine. And with over fueling, the engine doesn't run well. So I'd start with replacing the engine coolant temperature sensor.

Usual suggestion s a VagCom / VCDS scan.
Is the standard radio still in? Could be a connection/wiring issue for some of those issues but the scan should point to the places to start.
There's plenty of resources on setting up VCDS and of course its free to download the freeware copy.
Nice one at http://forums.tdiclub.com/showthread.php?t=224167

Hi guys, Yes Myth, I initally thought temp sender/sensor as i had a similair fault on a Volvo i had.

Typhoon, thanks for the link to Vagcom copy, I have just remembered that i modified my vag com cable for a bmw by soldering pins 7 & 8 together, should i reverse this mod or will it be ok to leave it as it is?

Many thanks for the help.
