Im now on B7 S Line Avant no 2 which is a 3.0 TDI manual, we are thinking after Christmas starting the search for a new motor. Much as we love the car and it ticks pretty much every box they do seem to be let down by a harsh ride. Always found it a bit tiresome on a long journey.

So are the B8 S lines just as harsh?

I have a B8.5 S Line and it's as smooth as an SE.

In a B7 S Line you could not talk clearly on some road surfaces as it was like someone was tapping you under the chin!

I do believe the B7 3.0 TDI S Line shares the same suspension as the B7 S4. Maybe they did the same of the B8. I really need to go tyre kicking.

Mrs C is making noises about a Touareg or ML320 CDI. Much I do like the Toerag not sure I face handing over £450 road tax!

Definitely, much less harsh.
I remember in my B7 S Line you had choose your moment and carefully time it if you wanted to sip a coffee and not end up wearing it!

I think its quite harsh in comparison to the newer S-Lines if you want comfort i would go for SE as its like a couch my dad has one and makes mine feel like a pile of rocks but S-Line is set up like that so what can you expect

Had the b7 and b8, the b8 definitely does feel less harsher but it also feels a lot heavier in my opinion! Would go for the 170 bhp or the 3.0 litre as I feel the standard 140 bhp just isn't enough for such a hefty motor.

Will defo be another 3.0.

Not the question at all but in my short test drive I noticed the S4 was much more compliant than my current S3 sportback which can be pretty harsh and tiring on long journeys.

I have just sold my A4 B7 3.0 TDI S line Quattro and have had a few Quattro's in my time... just moved to the Sline B8 V6 3.0 TDI I can truly say the B8 is far superior and much more comfortable but still retains sporty feel, very quiet infact doesn't sound like a diesel from out side when ticking over....pleasure to drive on short or long journeys (non tiring) you wont be disappointed....you may not want to get out of it once you're in..lol

Can't comment on the B7, but I have a 170 B8 Sline on 19's. It's like s f@cking go cart. Not the best for a smooth ride IMO.

the b8 s-line even with a 30mm drop is a better ride then the B7
