When I was initially looking at a S3 saloon the colour I wanted was either solid brilliant red or misano red pearl effect

When I looked into it further I realised that Audi were now doing the S3 saloon in sepang blue pearl effect

All was going well and we ordered our S3 saloon in sepang blue.

But TBH I keep going back to the red, particularly the misano red

No pics of any Uk S3 saloons in sepang blue yet, but I know they're be a few on Monday 010914,. Just can't decide and I know I'll need to be sharpish before my order goes into 'lock down'

Misano red S3 saloon -

I do love the misano on my TT however I always feel slightly ripped off that it's a flat colour. The pearl is very discreet to say the least. Only the very best lighting conditions bring it out.

So would you recommend solid brilliant red over misano on that basis then?

Could use the cash for some super sports seats I suppose ...

I think you know what I'm going to say .....................................

Get the Misano, it looks stunning on the Saloon, if it was 3 door or SB, as it's you I would say go Sepang.

This is the hardest choice. If you put an Audi decal on the rear door of a saloon in Sepang you can say its the Clubsport! Misano looks awesome too though... Tough decision...

Here is the car I told you about yesterday, I think sepang is so much better than Missano.

If i would have the option of Sepang when i bought the car, no doubt it would have been my choice.
But i´m happy with Misano Red, it´s a color that pulls the eye everywhere i go.

I disagree.

I think the red stands out more. Both are great colours but Sepang blue is going to be as common as opinions. Everyone has one.

The difference will be when it comes time to sell. There will be more luxo buyers who will take the safer option of blue over red.

If you aren't worried about that, go with your heart.

I had a bit of a dilemma choosing between Brilliant Red and Misano Red for my S3 Saloon and eventually went for Misano. I never considered the blue at all.
I personally don't think it suits the S3 Saloon although the RS6 looks great in blue. It's not so bad from the front but the side/rear of the car doesn't look so good in blue.
I did notice that the Clubsport suits blue but it's got a more aggressive body like the RS6 and also that Audi advertising/literature normally shows the S3 Saloon in Red, I believe that's because it works well on the car and red is seen as a sporty colour.
For me, some colours don't work on some cars even if I like the colour.

It's a tricky subject though. I also like the S3 Saloon in White with the Black pack but my wife would refuse a white car, luckily it wasn't my first choice.

Good luck with your choice ;)

Ask "Steeve", he will tell you pick any other colour over Sepang :)

But for me, it was always Sepang, even willing to wait the 9 months for it.

Here is an Australian S3 in Sepang. But at the end of the day, it will be up to you, and you alone that needs to decide.

It's a lovely colour but when I see it on the Saloon it looks like a custom paint job and not like it's meant to be on that car.

I have Missano on the TT so it was never a choice in the S3. However, having seen it sitting next to a brilliant red A3, of the two it would be Missano every time. Not seen it on a saloon, but does look good on an S3 with the silver mirrors
Ultimately it is down to personal taste, or there would only be one option, back to any colour you like as long as its black

Might be Tuesday for the pics. Got a lot of bonding to do with the newborn!

Thanks Phil. You've saved the day buddy :thumbs up:

Having seen the pics Phil has put up of the sepang blue S3 saloon, I know now I made the right decision intialy

My decision was born out what I like and no consideration for re-sale as mine will be a keeper. I'm a great deliver in going for spec / colour that suits me/us and not re-sale values

Thanks for all the inputs peoples. Appreciated :thumbs up:

I like to look at Sepang, but doubt I'd want to live with it.

You've picked a colour that you like so that's all that matters, it's a personal thing.

At least it's the right shape ;)

Blue and red are definitely the colours i'd be considering to stand out a little in what is a sea of greyscale from white to black on the roads these days if you don't want some of those 70s pastel shades that seem to be all the rage right now, but not in a few years time (thanks to Fiat 500 and all the other "retro" pretenders on the road).

The Sepang looks great and as an exclusive colour it does shout "S3", every other S3 on the road will probably end up being a Sepang, but why not? Next car will definitely be Sepang if nothing else tempts me from the highly likely S3 next Sept. I have a Tornado red Golf GTD right now, which looks great on a polished example, in all lighting, but looks crap if it's not kept shiny. 70% of all the GTI/GTDs out there seem to be white. Excluding a few standout colours, I do think the VAG palette is generally dull.

When I went in I knew I wanted brilliant red, not into white (though glacier looks good!) and did not want a dark colour.

Saw the red sitting next to misano, had more of a quality finish and started leaning towards it. Then I saw sepang on the S3, the blue I believe should have been standard on the 8P S3 instead of sprint blue, however back then it was an exclusive colour.

I know practically everybody is now picking it, that doesn't bother me.

Plus a lot of girls seem to be driving red Audis, from what I have seen.

Sorry about this people, but having doubts about my colour choice, again ... :keule:

Still not 100% certain about sepang blue TBH

My 2 choices are between glacier white & brilliant red

Haven't been told my order is in lock down yet, so still may be able to change the colour

Got to get it right while I can :thumbs up:

Ouch, very tough choice. They both look good.

I went for Misano Red but White looks really nice too, especially with the black pack. Brilliant Red is a nice colour but doesn't highlight the line of the Saloon like Misano does.

I personally don't think Sepang suits the Saloon.

Go with your first choice, sepang rules!!!!

1) Sepang Blue
2) Daytona Grey
3) Gacier white

Sorry, IMO red only works with Ferraris lol

Same here, it was Sepang Blue, even before it was available on the S3. Saw the pictures of the S3 sedan at the Shanghai and New York motorshow, was considering paying "Audi Exclusive" premium for it too, but was over the moon when they made it a standard colour option on MY15 spec S3.

Second choice would had been either Daytona Grey (added at the same time when the added Sepang), otherwise maybe Monsoon Grey.

I would be worried about colour fade on a red car (see too many faded dull old red cars on the street), and white show the dirt way to easily.

Yes, but have you noticed the faded red cars are all Vauxhalls. The vans used by the postal service are prime examples. It was a concern when we picked brilliant red. I would also say - do not pick solid/brilliant red unless you clean your own car. It requires more care than the lacquered finish on the metallic cars.

I had a white car about 20 years ago. Agree it is a hard colour to keep clean. The metallic blue car I had was about the same as our new red one. So I don't think there would be much in it regarding keeping them clean. The silver I currently have, without a doubt, hides the dirt best.

I think Audis in general, really suit a bright colour like red. I keep admiring my wife's car after I wash it. Even she has noticed other people looking at her car. She visits a lot of people with her work and is always getting comments on the nice car she is driving. (despite it being a SE, with 16 inch alloys and mud flaps)

Though the sepang blue looks really good too. From experience, I would not choose white. Tough choice.

Come on Longy, surely you dont believe that with todays paint technology you think a red car still fades quicker than any other colour?!? Just a FYI - Ive had 5 cars in varying shades of red (flat and metallic) and not a single one faded.

Sepang blue will be like Rally blue for the Subaru WRX. It will be as common as white, black and grey.

If you want your car to stand out without having to change the stance, rims or body then choose a colour that isnt part of the standard colour choice for most Audi enthusiasts.

At the end of the day, any colour you select will look good on the S3. You cant really make a bad choice here.

I still ain't made my mind up yet. Only thing I decided on is it would have to be misano red not brilliant red (not that there is anything wrong with BR). Dropped the white option as I have had my ibis white Audi A4 for 5 1/2 years so fancy a change

Found some more pics of a misano red S3 saloon

Does come up nice

But then again, so does sepang blue

Sorry to go on folks :keule:

Sepang.
Despite what people say on here, remember that there are very few people on here and we are all over the country. Sepang is popular amongst that very small group of people, but I have yet to see any 8V S3 on the road up here in the north east. They exist because I have seen them on the dealers forecourt, but on the road? not yet.
So, if it is the fact that everyone seems to be selecting Sepang that is forcing the rethink then don't let anyone else or what they are doing, impact on your decisions. And if it is common you are fearing go on the used car search on Audi and see how many estoril, red, white there are on there, and yet how many have you actually seen on the road?
BTW, don't listen to a word I am saying, make your own mind up. ;)

If you you want to stand out more then it has to be Sepang but Misano looks like it's meant to be on the car. Sepang looks a bit aftermarket to me.

To be honest you can't go wrong with either, they'll both look better in the 'flesh' too.

Like the misano best out of those. My cars are very partial to a thin layer of dust near work, so it's silver for me.

If I'm being honest with myself I'm not 100% on the sepang blue. My decision is not born out by the 'internet' popularity of it either, its just ...

I've just seen my first 8V S3 SB today. A black one. Had to look really hard to tell it was a S3 TBH
Seen 1 S3 saloon, which is the local Audi dealer demo & 1 8V S3 HB in amalfi white & thats it. So like you say I dont think they're going to be a common thing in the NE

Pleased I don't live in Aberdeen mind. I think everyone drives a 8V S3's there! :laugh::laugh::laugh:

As we speak I'm still leaning toward the misano red

Thanks for your input Phil :thumbs up:

You've actually done me a huge favour by finding that misano picture. The A3 in my profile I thought was Misano but, after seeing your picture, I am convinced that it's brilliant red instead. I chose Misano on the basis of my picture (it's the car i took for a test drive) and now i'm convinced that i made the right choice! It just looks like it will "pop" more in the sun. The brochures all seem to use Misano and it looks stunning in those but i thought that they were just being clever with the camera angles and filters.

cheers bud, go for Misano!

Ultimately the choice is yours and it is a personal preference for you and you only.

I will give you my three choices: ( only my opinion ). :meeting:

1 Glacier White
2. Sepang Blue
3. Misano Red.

don't worry colour was the hardest thing for me...changed from misano red to estoril back to misano red

misano pops out more in bright sunlight with a subtle orange tinge

brilliant red looks flatter/redder in sunlight - still a nice colour

the only thing I would say is I had a metallic blue Peugeot 307xsi and it always looked clean and was easy to clean - easiest colour to clean by far

Did I see an orange Audi A3 drive past me tonight? Maybe it was the street lights. It was not a new 8V model.

That got me thinking - what colour would look bad on an S3? How about a yellow, orange, brown or green? Saw a dark purple Toyota estate car today. Looked like poo on the Toyota, but the S3?

Then I was thinking - what would be the safest colour of A3 to buy? White reflects the most light so would be safest at night, but what about thick fog or snow. Was looking to overtake a few years back and saw lights in the fog, in the distance, but could not see the white car with no lights in front of it. (Yeah, I know every new car since 2011 has DLRs). Silver, gold and yellow are not much better in those conditions. I pulled out in front of a black car that was driving around in heavy rain just after sun up in the morning. I looked but just did not see it through the rain covered side window, coming down hill, against the wet road, with no lights on. Dark grey (or road coloured) cars are not much better. I think we can rule out summer hedge green and winter hedge brown. Though I suppose these colours would be fine if you never left your city. Though most suburbs have hedges which the cars could camouflage in front off. Blue would be ok but some people are colour blind so it will look the same colour as a hedge to them. Apparently red, while being quite visible, is the most desirable colour for thieves.

So if that Audi a saw earlier was orange it is probably the safest colour to have!

All of this has led me to the conclusion that I spend too much time in my car thinking about rubbish!
