Drl As Headlight

Well it's been a while since I have driven any kinda distance on a busy road/motorway and over the last couple of days I have gradually made my way down to the south coast of England.

I know 'us' Audi drivers have had DRL's for some time on our cars but it seems people in other brands don't get that they are D RL, Daytime, not N RL , Nighttime running lights. I think that ALL light systems should be locked on auto to prevent tards driving around at night with just front DRL's on thinking their something special in their new festa or C3. And the absolute idiot in the VXR travelling at those speeds undertaking/cutting up at night with just front DRL, die soon will you, yes my car is better than yours, no I'm not playing your little game.

I had a very similar thought yesterday also, it seems every car you see has DRL's now what happened to exclusivity?

Perhaps it's something to with the fact that DRL's are now required by law on ALL new cars.

So not eloquently put, I think many of the past drl's on audi's looked like Christmas tree lights, the implementation on my 2011 focus looked far better had auto lights as does my partner's fiesta and are left on auto all the time. If you are referring to bad driving habits then many drivers are guilty of bad habits, including quite a few audi owners I have come across...

I did not comment on how fancy or christmassy they look. I made a rant on how they're being utilised, duh!

I have to be honest even though they are DRL and just LEDs they are quite still bright at night but still doens't mean to say you can drive with just the DRLs on maybe they think DRL stands for Dark Running Lights and can only be used at night some people are idiots like

I have pulled out of my drive with DRL's on and thought I had my side lights on.... took a while to realise that I only had

The Side lights are the same bulbs as the DRL's and on my TTS the DRL's/Side Lights were brighter as DRL's than they were when switched to Side Lighting.

One problem is when it is raining people think they can be seen with only DRL's but forget that they have no rear lighting!

All these cars have an auto-setting for the lights, use it ***.

Same as those b*stards who "forget" to turn on their lights in long tunnels

While I agree with the general sentiment in the original post, the tone and language were not what is expected on this forum. And to suggest that Audi drivers are in any way different or better than other drivers is ludicrous.

Im with you on this one! Have came across many tards in the past few years driving in almost total darkness with just their DRLs on. I have often wondered are they THAT stupid they dont realise or do they actually think its acceptable to be totally invisible from the back!

Oh and knobs driving in terrible weather conditions with just their DRLs on, again totally invisible from the back in hard to see conditions.

I'm suggesting, because DRL is a legal requirement, auto light (locked) should also be simply because of the abuse from the DRL only setting. I won't be surprised if this will be the case sooner or later. And should you then see a car with DRL only after dusk, you know he's messed with the module via electronic means (VCDS equivalents for other manuf)

I'm not complaining at all about DRL and not saying Audi drives are better and I don't for one second apologise for my language/content/context. If you cut me up at night with your front DRL on only , you're a fucktard.

I'm with you on this one

Side lights should be renamed parking lights now that DRLs are here. There is no possible cause to use side lights, other than to make your car visible when parked on a dark road, because they use little power.

DRLs are brighter and should be used in daytime, headlights in the rain, spray on the road, dusk, night, dawn, fog. Easy.

Which was my point really....

The DRLs should be as bright on the sidelight setting if you ask me and only dim down with headlights.
The other thing I wanted to mention is that on auto setting when the headlights turn on in the daytime so you can see on the light dial the headlights are on but the "lights" are not on, ie the buttons light up red on the dash etc
are the rear sidelights on or not?

If the headlights or side lights are on, the rear lights will be. Nothing to do with the instrument/dashboard lighting.
