8V S3 Tuning Thread

Veeeight/ Jasso86 - thanks for this, I now see the balance. I guess as many have alluded to - its what youre comfortable with I suppose.

TBH, I spend my dollar with MTM as I trust them and know they have huge backing and a lot of goodwill to protect. I know they were the factory rally team/ audi partner of choice back in the day of Group B when they done all the mapping and fuelling of the mighty S1's!

The MTM-Cantronic appears and is reputedlty very sophisticated with respect to others; Its not just overboosting. It has a cold oil temp soft limiter, removes the 155mph limiter and, well....comes with a MTM pen and badge and inner ful cap sticker :)

I am using the MTM in the S3 for the last 7 months and did 25000km with it.
It works ok and now is the best way to have fun with the CXJC.

I took the MTM because I had 2 cars with their boxes and had no problems.
The main purpose of installing it , is something called warranty.

For sure the best way is a remap.

I am considering when good software appears for our ECU's to sell the MTM and buy another ECU and play with it.

PS: MTM box does not remove the limiter.

regards

I'm getting the FSR+ tuning box installed tomorrow, along with some before and after runs on the rolling road, will be interesting to see the results!

If ABT can do it, everyone else will be able to do it too. Come the end of the year the major players in the UK will have their offerings on the table and they will be coming in much lower than £3,300 for a remap and downpipe.

I agree though, 400bhp sounds great! :)

400 bhp sound indeed good :p
And that is with the original turbo...

wait, so you drop the price and with forum member discount (is this not standard when purchasing from you?) it comes to 399, yet on the offer a few weeks ago, you said you needed 10+ people for the FSR box go for 399 (still without forum member discount.. ?) way to go with the loyalty or even faux the deal at the time.

Any chance of getting the forum member discount back on my FSR order?

We received some additional support from our suppliers on the ten FSR boxes which were part of the group buy, these were offered at £399 plus shipping which at the time included a £150 discount of the then RRP of £549.00

As the group buy was popular we have gone back to our supplier and have asked for additonal kits at the lower cost, we have secured support that we can now pass onto our customers which had resulted in the lowering of the RRP, the downside is that we've had to order 100 kits.

So to sum up, you were charged £399 plus shipping for the FSR box via the group?

The price from today to anyone who is a member of the forum is £399 plus shipping

So I can't see where and how I need to refund you anything as the group buy included the £80 discount as part of the £150 saving against the £549 rrp

I didn't say you need to refund me anything, your original offer was made on 10+ buyers discount. I was only asking If I could get it back as you seem to make offers with or without member discount as you see fit which come to the same price, just misleading that's all if forum member discount is usually given anyway

The forum discount has always been £80 off the full RRP and we've decided to leave this in place on the FSR even though we've reduced the cost by £70. As I've explained the group buy included the £80 discount.

Either way members can now tune their S3s at a cost of £399 plus shipping which represents an £80 saving off the full RRP

Anyone here running the Forge FMIC yet?

I've purchased it, along with a Miltek DP and Pipercross kit, but haven't installed anything yet.

I'm interested in some dyno results from anyone running it. The Forge dynos are based on the GTI, and I don't think it will put out the same numbers on the S3.

Now please excuse me asking this.....

There is a reason which I'll come to later.

Has anyone had the APR ECU upload yet?

There isn't one out yet I don't think?

I know what your gonna say though, they've been bought out by some random investment company.

Got my S3 booked in next Monday to get measured up for a custom cat back exhaust.

I couldn't possibly say that...!

Seriously though, that being so,it may concentrate their minds on their core business, which is people like us and not on race teams and private jets.

It may even give one or two others a bit of a wake-up.

I spoke to revo on Sunday at Crail and they've made no headway with their S3 having had it a good month or two now. They're concentrating their efforts into Stage 2 Golf R's instead. All I was told is that they wont rush it, which is fair enough I suppose, I guess just like APR, they are trying to learn the ECU.

Don't expect any remaps from either of them in 2014, they both still need development and then beta testing etc before general public resale. I think we are looking at early 2015 before the remaps for these cars are out.

In addition to that, the APR carbon intake, anyone got one yet? Do they even exist or is this another one of APR's major fails? They released details about it months ago, a nice finished product, but haven't heard of anyone having received one yet. I phoned up Awesome to buy one only to be told they have no stock, they promised the first batch would be mid August followed by a 2nd batch end August. Guess what, middle of September and they still haven't received the 1st batch. When I phoned up Awesome GTI to buy one at the end of July, they wanted full payment for the intake there and then as well, so glad I never went ahead with that.

For the guys that are waiting on a remap, how long have you been waiting now? 12 months? Longer? How long do you wait?

Might be worth trying Rick@Unicorn Motor Development. He custom remapped my 150 TDI recently through OBD. No other tuners can do this and a tuning box or ECU removal was the only option.

The guy is seriously clued up as well.

Just wanted to add that Rick doesn't just do diesels, he's been getting some amazing figures out of 8P and 8L S3's for years.

He's well known on this forum and definitely worth a PM.

To be honest, even leaving APR's financial issue aside, this is exactly what I'd expected, and part of the reason I'd asked.

There is always a huge amount of smoke and mirrors with software companies as to what they say they can do,and what they actually CAN do,and this is another example.

"oh yes,the remaps will ready in a month from now".....and another, and another etc etc.

I found a place in Fife that apparently specialises in custom exhausts.
To tell the truth I'm a little apprehensive about getting it done due to the valves at the tailpipes. Booked in next Monday for them to have a looksee at it. I'm not overly confident about it but will go and see what they say. Bit of a distance to go and not even knowing if I'll get it done in the end. Desperately trying to put as much miles on the car as i can, a wee trip to Fife should help with that. As long as I make it out of Fife with my trainers still on my feet. I'll be happy haha.

Is this pipe dynamics? Some of there stuff looks and sounds really good. But was also a bit apprehensive about it.

Let me know how you get on as I'm still thinking about the idea

Yeah its Pipe Dynamics in leven mate, will let you know how I get on with it.
I've only emailed them and sent pics of the underside of the car. 1 option was to take out the centre silencer and leave the rear section standard.
Would really like different tailpipes though. Just to be a little different.

Paid Pipe Dynamics a visit today.

Tailpipe flaps are posing a slight problem, im going to disconnect the motors from the backbox this week and see how it behaves. If no engine warning light comes on. Will be going back down and getting a system fitted.
I'm hoping and praying I get no warning light on as I've already picked out the system and tailpipes :-(

you will only get the warning thru VCDS for exhaust flap malfunction once disconnected, you're all good :)

I've had mine disconnected for months with no warnings.

What sort of prices were they asking?

Have you disconnected it from the multi plug or unbolted it from the backbox?
There's a join just before the centre section, have decided to get it from there back. He said there will be a bit more work involved with the tailpipes I went for but getting it done for £450.

Yea I just disconnected the two electrical plugs. £450 is a decent price, even more tempted now.
