Hi. I want to change oil in my manual gearbox and rear differential and as I am not a mechanic I have few questions.
Is it the same oil for both of these?
What oil to get?
How much oil do I need?
I've read somewhere that red line mt 90 is good for rear differential but I don't know if it would suit the gearbox.

I have just purchased some oil to change my 3.0 TDI.
Was advised to use either the lower viscosity OEM or Fuchs Sintofluid 75w80. I went for the Fuchs. Haven't got round to doing it yet, probably next couple of weeks.
You need 3.8 litres for the gearbox.
Not too sure about the Rear Differential Oil, I too would like to know this.
Can I ask why are you wanting to change the Gearbox Oil? Any problems?
Chris

I read somewhere that the rear diff needs almost 1.5 liter. I want to change it because the third gear makes weird noise when going from the second. Nothing big but from other side my car is nearly 60k so to keep it in good condition. I don't believe audi that they are lifetime.

You have the same problem I had a few months ago with my A3 TDI. As Audi enthisiasts we should really have all this info but it's not readily available. I tried to get something going maybe start a section on her for technical information, mods were for it but got very little response from members, I manage to get the info for my car and I imagine you will as well but that was it.
Another thing that happened was I was advised my gearbox and front trasfer box were the same oil, they weren't but by that time I had drained the transfer box down so car off road until I got the correct oil :(

You right. It would be great to have all the informations in some kind of sections. It's really hard to go through entire forum to find sth.
I can't afford to have my car off the road. I think I will have to go with oem oil from audi.

I just ordered oils from audi. From what the guy said the gearbox takes 3.2 liters and the rear diff 1 liter. Oil for the rear diff is different from the gearbox. All together cost 108 pounds. Almost forgot. The guy told me that there is no need to drop down a subframe.
