Hi
I recently bought an Audi A3 2.0 TDI 150cp and I read in the user's manual that for breaking in the engine needs to stay at 2/3 of the maxim available rpm. This means that it should stay below 2/3*6000 = 4000rpm.
The guys at the dealership told me that I should also change the gears as the cars computer tells me but I'm afraid it makes me switch gears too early because i never reach more then 1600rpm and I know that at this rpm the turbine doesn't even start.
What's your experience with engine break in ?
Thanks

It's up to you, you can take the manufacturers advice or rag it from day one.
I've run all my cars in over the years and never had one that used oil. I stick to the recommended speed for the first 500 miles then gradually increase what I use as max revs with the odd short blast. So that by the time I get to 1000 miles its all available.
Let the engine warm up before using high revs and never load the engine keep it running freely.

That's the problem because the owners manual tells me that i should keep the revs lower then 4000 but at 1600rpm (where the car tells me to change gears) the car doesn't feel like it has much power because the turbine doesn't start until 1875rpm.

You don't have to follow the computer, you find it's just for maximum economy. It doesn't know that you might want to accelerate quickly or that you're going uphill either. Use it as a guide. As an experienced driver you should be able to feel if the engines labouring.
