Thinking about making a new purchase within the next couple of months, just wanted your views on options, colour and fuel consumption.

How many miles do you get per tank?

Colour = solar orange with the black grill or maybe sprint blue.

Any must have options?

Any discounts gained from dealers or on-line dealers.

i would imagine if you drive it properly you won't be getting much more than 200 miles per tank
 
Good choice ! Any way colour i suppose is personal, obviously I opted for the Blue, and IMO it looks stunning. I would worry about values of the orange in a year or two.

I have averaged about 26mpg since new, although it has improved of late , now having about 3.5k on it. Cruising on the motorway at 75 sees 32mpg,80-85 about 29mpg, giving it what for cross country can see as low as 17mpg. I usually see about 250-290 out of a tank.

Multi function flat bottom seems to be a popular extra, and it does look stunning, didn't go for the bucket seats myself but some people seem to like them, they do look good though. Personally do not think they are worth 1700 quid, standard seats are fine IMO. I suppose other options are personal really, I went for cruise, bose, symphony, folding mirrors and FBMFSW.

Discount, no chance when i ordered mine and i believe are still pretty much unheard of, but you can but try.

Anyway good luck, great car which you won't regret forking out for.

200-250 miles per tanks is norm.

Colour is personal. From my experience

*Must haves:

- Flat Bottom multifunction steering wheel
- Bluetooth GSM phone prep
- BOSE (if you do not plan aftermarket upgrade)
- Cruise (motorway)
- Interior light pack

* Consider:
- Bucket seats (love them! they give so much support)
- Sat Nav (I did not order this but found sometimes can be very usefull)
- Auto folding, auto dimming (did not spec, not essential but handy if you park in tight spaces)
- Ipod conector (did not spec as got Symphony and it reads MP3 and I don't need 1 million songs to choose from...)

*Do not recommend
- Auto light/wipers (can't you operate a switch?)
- Luggage pack (do you really need it?)

P.S.: Only my opinion, other have their own. In the end it is your choice mate. But the S3, whatever spec is a fantastic package, can't stop praising it!
 
Extras are quite a personal thing. On my S3 (brilliant red) I have BOSE, Lumbar, Auto lights, Sunroof and iPod.
I actually prefer the round steering wheel to the flat bottomed wheel so saved some cash there!
If I chose again I would still have the BOSE, definitely the sunroof and the Lumbar. More than happy with the colour. I would add the interior light pack (tried to add this but left it too late) and probably not bother with the iPod as I have not used it yet. (My son has the iPod and he does not even like the radio on as he likes listening to the engine note!)
Thought lots about the armrest but I found it got in the way on the demos that I drove, even with it pushed back.
One mega cheap aftermarket option that I like is the LED torch that sits in the cigarette ligher socket. Less than £20 from Audi.

On a long motorway run I get 320 miles out of a tank, doing short runs see's it drop to about 250 (but i live in congested london!!)

Go blue - it's a great colour, seems popular is not too in 'ya face' and so will hole value come re-sale.

Options for me:
Flat Bottom steering wheel - a lot nicer to hold than the standard wheel in my opinion
iPOD - a bit dissapointed with this option, but have to say I do use it all the time, you just have to manage your playlists on your laptops so you have your car selection.
Symphony stereo - kind of a silly option having the iPOD but is very good.
Interior light pack - add's a nice environment in the car with ambient lighting, discreet lighting of the door handles, foot well, map lights an d lights in the bottom of the doors etc. I like this option
BOSE - Sounds awesome
Electric lumbar - worthy piece of adjustment to get comfy
Folding Mirrors - useful in London
Sunband - a con this one, but does add to the look
Armrest - again - great on motorways
Cruise - for those average speed checks around luton on the M1!!!
Piano Black inserts - free option but look great and don't scratch easily despite others concerns

Wish i'd got bluetooth phone prep in the armrest.... my only regret on options!

Will eventually retrofit sat nav I think.

The main problem i've got is choosing the colour, i know the sprint blue is the sensible choice, but would i get bored with the orange a year or 2 later, and would it attract the wrong kind of attention when you park up for a night out. The car will be a weekend toy while i work all week...

I'm looking to buy an S3 in the summer. Personally the spec i am looking at is:

Colour:
Ibis White

Interior:
Bucket Seats (who cares how much they cost, they look great, plus you save about £500 from not having a metallic/pearl colour :) )
Black Headlining
Light Pack
Front Centre Armrest
Flat-Bottom Steering Wheel
Heated Front & Outer Rear Seats

Exterior:
Folding Door Mirrors

And BOSE & Cruise Control

This totals £30,180.00,according to the online configurator, which i hope to get down to close to £29k, and then spend a grand on retro-fitting sat nav & bluetooth :cool:

That would take you to £30k ish. Then as a finishing touch, i would like to get some RS4 alloys as a finishing touch, so it looks like this:

I happened to be passing Hatfield Audi the other week and they had an Orange demo - it was abright day and I just don't think the Orange looks that nice.
It's a brave colour no doubt and if you're not bothered about re-sale value and want to stand out, then maybe, but seriously i suggest you look at one in the skin - where are you based? If you're near London and want me to meet you in my sprint blue car so you can park them together and make your choice I'd be happy too.

If you wan't a bold colour and don't want blue I'd go the white over Orange personally!

It's interesting how everyone has different taste's when it comes to options:hi:

I thought long and hard about the colour and opted for the Sprint blue because:
1. I have never owned a blue car before
2. Its and exclusive S3 colour
3.Although I saw the white and loved it I just couldn't see myself ordering it incase it suddently became fashionable again and everyone has a white car again!

Interesting to find someone else on here with a sunroof, I added that to my order late on as I like a bit of natural air on long journeys in the warm weather, I find being in the car for 2 - 3 hours with the AC on gives me a headache.How does the car look with it 57, any pics?

My options other than Sunroof were the autowipers and lights, which although some might see as lazy options are a very useful one IMO, particularly the lights.You never forget to switch them on and they flick on and off if you go through a tunnel or under some thick branched trees where the light is limited below, I think a useful safety feature.

Rear parking sensors because having had them on my current car you realise how invaluable they are once you've had them, especailly if you live in a built up area with tight parking!

Didn't bother with Bose,Bluetooth,Sat Nav as I plan to fit a Pioneer double din unit to do all 3.

My only regret is perhaps not going for the flat botomed wheel but as others on here have told me it's not as comfortable on a longer drive than the std one, even if it does look a lot better.

Funny - I test drove two demo's with the standard wheel and found it uncomfortable around the spokes where you grip.
I was going to order the flat bottom wheel anyway 'cause I thought it looked cool (I know, I know!) but when I sat in a TT found it much more comfortable too. Prefer the smooth leather to the dimple leather too.
 
no problem driving with my flat bottom steering wheel.

I'm pretty sure I'm the S3 owner that did the longest run! 1800 miles in 25 hours with 2 hours sleep.

Also bucket seats, no problem, confortable!

Can you get those S3 alloys and seats (from the one featured in the youtube video) to fit an A3 Sportback s-line?
 
For your options list it's really quite simple.

Get all of them. :thumbsup:

I nearly did, stopped short of bootliners, luggage packs and sunroof.

Perfect....

....and somewhat expensive! :yes:
 
Test drove a spint blue S3 today, totally amazing.

Also lined up against a black and ming blue one too, still not 100% on colour ....

I am still waiting for a build date for my S3, ordered 3 weeks ago.

I got a £750 discount on the standard price and got the Audi Concert 6 CD changer thrown in for free. Only options I went for were the multi functional steering wheel (not the flat bottomed one) and the front center arm rest. There were so many I would have had but you can go a bit crazy I think. Getting it in Red.

I took out a white one with flat bottomed steering wheel and bucket seats. Did not like the steering wheel and even though the seats looked great they were way to hard and uncomfortable. Not worth an extra £1700.

Later on my g/f took a 2.0T and a 1.8T out and I preferred the seats in those ones which are similar to the standard S3 ones.

Sprint Blue probably the nicest one for the S3! Ordered Phantom Black, love it and because I never had a black car before so went for complete stealth but sometimes I feel that I should have got Sprint Blue, ideally I would have booth!

Today.... probably still order phantom, stunning when clean and shiny... not so difficult to keep like that in Portugal... but Sprint is great, really like Jamies car colour. Your call mate! Black and Sprint Blue are probably the ones that give the best contrast with alluminium mirrors and trim and I like that!

I went with the Sprint Blue in part because of the exclusivity of that colour on the S3 and partly because I just really liked it and hadn't had a blue car before.
I currently have a black (Metallic) BMW which looks fantastic when cleaned but only stays looking that good for a day or 2 then goes back to looking dull and dirty.
I had and RX8 in Mica red which was an amazing coulour when clean as the mica in the sunlight just made the car glint from every angle, again though like the BMW it seemed to get that dull sheen over it within a day or 2.

I still love the white and the main reason I didn't get it was because in a years time everyone could be driving around in white cars again as it will always be a no cost option vs say £500 metalic.

I have actually got over 36mpg!!

Best from a tank has been around 320 miles with about 10 on the dis left to go.
 
As most have said, colour is really down to you but I have to say I wouldn't be brave enough for the orange! I also think it'll cost you at trade in time.

As for discounts (I think it's on Tyresmoke but can't check as the site must be down) but I'm 100% I read somewhere there is now an official Audi 7% available... so good luck :jump:

I think i seem to be the only one with a red S3, the reason i chose it over the blue was, my last 2 cars were blue and from the back i prefered how the lights blended in with the colour, i know sprint blue is an exclusive audi colour, but the red does look absoloutely stunning especially from the front as the red goes really well with the black and silver grill and chrome wing mirrors, my second choice would have been the blue but there seems to be a lot of them around.

Anyway its up to you i will try get some pics uploaded after giving it a good wash.

Red is stunning mate, if my 20TQ had not been red I would of gone for it instead of the blue probably, I do love the blue though.

Economy - I see upto 300 miles from a tank, and it has been getting better of late. if driven in earnest this can easily drop to 200.

Colour - I love the Orange, but having seen Yellow think it looks great also.

Options That I would have if I order a 2nd:
FBMFSW
Phone prep in Armrest
Adaptive lights (if you live around unlit A roads / b roads these are great)
Bose
Symphony
Luggage pack (buying the net, etc after if hideous cost)
Reversible boot mat (Retro fit buy is V expensive)

Maybes
Mirror pack
Auto Light / Wipers

Wouldnt bother
Sat NAv (Unless S3 now gets MMI options)
Buckets (Not made for a FB)
Sunroof (Just never been bothered by these)
 
audi upgrades
I usually get about 300 miles per tank, thats a mixture of long and short trips. Getting stuck at 30 or 40 round town seems to do great things for fuel economy and that happens to me quite a lot.

Last week I almost fainted as I had the car computer on the speedo and was just arriving at my destination after driving about 20 miles and clicked the computer over to my mpg for the current journey and it was reading 40.5 mpg!!!! I did get stuck behind a driver doing 40 to 50 and could not over take.

My overall mpg is reading 29.9 mpg over 1450 miles.

My S3 is RED!! Brilliant Red and looks great!
 
I've had my S3 since June and now driven 7500 miles. Most of my journeys are on the motorway and 100+ miles a time, I get around 300 miles on a full tank of vpower, have got as much as
330. I get the feeling if I used the car around town and shorter stop start trips I would at least 100 miles less out of a tank.
I didn't notice a difference in econonmy before and after the remap so think it's more about how you drive it and how far which is a fairly obvious point.

I love the Sprint Blue I have, yes it's the most common colour on here but I still think it looks amazing in good light when it's been cleaned. Given the choice again I'd still go for the same but the more I see the Orange the more I like it, just a shame ford dit the ST in a similar colour.
 
I bought my S3 at the start of the yr. I spec'd the car and told the dealer I wanted it straight away. I was told that there was a build time and I wouldn't get the car for 3 months ! At that point I told them not to bother

The Dealer suggested that I looked at a car that the dealerships business manager just had delivered. It was a high spec except a couple of extras like DvD Sat Nav. They agreed sell me the car and add any extras that I wanted.

I got a large discount from RRP. It maybe worth asking the dealer they are currently building any
 
If I was in the position of being able to afford one (which I'm not :( ) I'd be keeping it simple and have:

Dolphin Grey
Bucket Seats
Cruise Control
Bluetooth
Flat Bottomed Steering Wheel

Thats pretty much it! Its easy to get carried away with options!
 
You lot aint driving it fast enough or maybe its the remap :readit: I only get 200-250 out of a tank of V Power...

I went for Dolphin Grey, for resale value, I dont think its that common, I would have happily had the blue as I think that looks great, just alot more of them on the road.

Options:

Sat Nav (get it or retro fit it, its a must if only for the MP3 SD slots)

Sunroof - like having this, adds light to the cabin, and means AC is off more often helping with fuel economy and the dreaded AC headache!

Light Pack - Just really sexy cool lighting inside

Light and Rain - I like the idea of the home lighting etc.. use it all the time

Bose - Definitely worth the ££, excellent quality!

6 CD - wish I hadnt bothered with this, but its pretty cheap

I decided the bucket seats where abit OTT, only thing I wish I had got is the FBMF steering wheel, but hey ho, next time...

If anyone is thinking of remapping and wants to see what the remap feels like just let me know, happy for people to see mine :cool:
 
240 - 260 miles driving round town.. so that's about 20mpg.

Otherwise, if you throw a m'way run or 2 in their then that goes up to an easy 280 miles from a tank at something like 27mpg :)

I got almost 10% knocked off mine. Will find out build date next week but looking at March 1st so just in time for 'Club 15'
