I have a problem with a friend's A6. The engine is AKE and the throttle seems to have a mind of it's own.

Here is a video of the problem:

Notice how I try from 0:48 to hold the throttle pedal steady at ~20% and the rpm skyrocket from ~2200rpm to over 3500rpm. If the pedal is at 19%, the rpm stays at ~2000-2100.

Also to mention, when the rpm goes sky high, it blows some black smoke at the back.

Bad remap with driver's wish values maxed out...can you do a boost log of measuring blocks 11, 08 and 03 please to see what the requests are ? Also, what's the year ? It's a a6 quattro, yes ?

Just curious from the info in the video from VCDS and the info the OP provided how can you say with certainty that it's even had a remap, let alone a bad one that's causing this issue?

Yes, it'a a quattro. The year from VIN is 2000, but most pieces are made in 1999(eg, windows, seat belts)

After 6 hours of *&^*%& with the car, I found the problem. The vacuum line that goes to the N75 and N18 was ruptured. So only little vacuum was actually moving the turbo (and the EGR too). But there was enough vacuum to move the actuator a little...

I'm also curios how you know the car was remaped? I found out this info after I gave the car back to it's owner...

The MAF output hardly goes above the 600mg/stroke and the revving is unusual when no load, only blown
turbo seals can do a similar effect but the revs would not come back to idle !

So do you still think it's got a bad remap as well as the problem the OP repaired?

The more you know... Thanks adamss24 for the info.

In the first post I said it is AKE engine, but in fact it's AKN.

Then it has the wrong ECU as it ends in 401 D which is only quattro sport either a6 or a4... Not the end of the world as the hardware is similar and when mapped the changes are not massive so the base file is still the same... How does it drive ? Can you do a boost log of block 11, 8 and 3 please in 5th gear from 2000 to 4000 rpm's ? I would not mind having a look at the file if you can read it with galletto, MPPS or kwp2000+
