Hi guys, I recently purchased a set of 18 inch S line alloys. I currently have the standard 16 inch alloys and they only have the wheel nuts on (no locking key or locking nut).

Can I use my existing wheel nuts for the new alloys? I'm not too concerned with they key and locking nut as I highly doubt anyone would steel them.

As long as they're both genuine (not aftermarkets) and the same offset, which I assume they will be if they're both genuine, then yes.

As long as the seating of the bolts are the same, then yes, as in tapered or radius.

Thanks for the replies. Yes my stock 16 inch alloys are genuine, came with the car when new, however oddly enough it did not come with a locking key and nut. Just the nuts/bolts (whatever you wish to call them). Over time the front nuts were lost, therefore as of now I have 3 nuts on each of the front 2 wheels (two nuts missing on each wheel).

I am upgrading to a genuine set of 18 inch S line alloys (both are 5x 112 stud pattern). I hope the bigger alloys will not look weird on my SE suspension.

You should be replacing the missing bolts as a priority, there are 5 on each wheel for a reason!

Wouldn't recommend driving round with just 3 bolts holding your wheels on. That's a recipe for disaster.

And there's only one way to sort that out, get it lowered :w00t:

I thought having 3 nuts on each of the front 2 wheels should be fine as its balanced and I have driven nearly 5000 miles like this with no problems, however I seldom experience vibration at higher speeds (65 mph plus) on the motorway that fades in and out. Although this could just be that the wheels need balancing.

Taking your comments on board I will definitely buy the alloy nuts locking set, especially as I'm upgrading to the 18 inch S line alloys. Found a set at Eurocarparts for £33.54. I assume this is for all 12 nuts and 4 locking nuts with key or is it just for 1 wheel? i.e. 4 nuts, 1 locking nut and key.

Also, I am planning to lower my car with the Bilstein B12 Sportline kit, which has the Bilstein dampers and Eibach sportline springs. Found a seller selling a used one as his upgrading his to coilovers. His done around 20-25k on them in the last 2 years. However they have a months warranty left on them so his going to send them to Bilstein just to double check they are all in working order.

Do you think B12 sportline kit with the 18 S line alloys would look good on a pre face lift 8p Sportback A3? Please note it has the stock SE front and rear bumper. I hope after this it still comes across as a genuine A3 Sport model, which is my aim.

Just had another look and my bad, all bolts are on, just 2 nut caps are missing on either side of the two front wheel!

It's the load spreading over 3 instead of 5 that's the problem, you don't want the wheel shearing off or anything totally disastrous.

If I were you I'd just get someone who knows what they're doing to put the new wheels including new locking nuts on for you....

Once I have my S line 18 inch alloys on my SE A3 I will post a pic up.
