hi whats the difference in fitting a bam engine in a 1999 s3 which should have an apy engine ?

same engine except vvt and no sai i think, different ecu, bam has 2 lambda aswell... not sure if the earlier ecu will work?

you can swap all the parts off your apy lump to the bam lump and do away with two o2 sensors and vvt if you want but the later ecu is much better from what ive heard, worth getting the whole lot over if you can and plan to mod it.

welcome btw, this is by far the best forum ive been on bud and these guys have helped me sort many problem and get my head around the 20v lump, im no expert but know my way around the bay pretty good now. get a obd2 cable off ebay for a tenner and download rosstech so you can read your own codes with a laptop, its a godsend...
