So I bent a conrod on my bam engine and now I'm trying to source another engine to put in my S3 but wasn't sure if it had to be a bam or could be a different engine code. Also I now plan on forging the conrods on my next engine as I want to achieve 300+ Bhp and am probably going bt build, what would I need to achieve 300+Bhp?. I already have full turbo back with 3 inch downpipe and decat with milltek cat back, 3 inch turbo intake pipe, forge dv, front mount and uprated pannel filter.

not another bender.
bad luck pal :(
how much damage did it do? do you definately need a new engine?
300bhp is a fairly odd area to be honest. if you keep your current k04 and upgrade all hardware inc water meth you will be in 300bhp territory however it wont pull like a big turbo or hybrid running the same power. plus you will be caning it. how deep are your pockets???

Yeah new engine needed and its going to be a project so not fussed about money really as I have a van to get round in. So it doesn't have to be a bam block?. It was running a stage 2

theres stage 2 and theres stage 2. hardware break down please.

Well it had no lift shift and anti lag (more of a hard cut limiter)

sorry i mean what spec. there are variations between tuners stage 2's

do you have 3 inch turbo bk
fmic
3 inch tip
open filter
water meth
hi flow manifold?? etc etc

3 inch turbo back, piper pannel filter, 3 inch intake, forge dv and fmic

I have found a bam engine and should hopefully be picking it up next week and then all I have to do is source some forged rods any recommendation's?.

sorry but I have looked through it and could not see any recommendations?

this is a mine field subject.
everyone has there own theory and asking this question usually ends in war!!!!
wasnt being rude toward you,
as for rods im not entirely sure what to say
IE
brute
ina / dm forged (depending who you ask)
really its a mine field.

LOL who maps no lift shift and anti lag launch into an unforged 1.8t?!

Well...I wasn't going to say it,as I only know ALS on Cosworths,but....as you've gone first....exactly.

I know a few people running it fine lol didn't actually know that it couldn't be done, but now I do haha.

So he mapped it himself then did he?

People doing stupid stuff like just give our engines more of a bad rep as being weak. And thus makes it harder for people like me to sell their perfectly healthy and safe cars.

Who mapped this in for you? Name and shame, it's their negligence and your misguided use of it which has caused your engine to go pop.

Give a child a gun, and the child's going to start doing some damage without knowing the consequences.

Was someone local to me can't remember the name of the company. And I found out after my engine blew up that you're not supposed to run it on standard internals.

was being sarcastic man!

Not heard anything bad about IE rods and I know a fair few people who run them. That's what I will be ordering soon.

I had this issue this year however my rod popped out the back of my block. I went for a second hand engine off ebay, took it apart and rebuilt it with the IE rods. I would recommend once yours is rebuilt you go to a reliable and proven tuner. Bill @ Badger 5 is your best bet in my opinion.

If I can add to the rod debate.....have any of you tried or used PEC rods?

I know they make rod sets for your cars,as well as mine, and the ones in my car have been pretty tough.

One other point on rods.....a couple of yrs ago,all of the sources such as IE,JE,PEC etc etc, suffered a shortage/inability to supply at the same time, and left a lot of us wondering exactly where the original manufacturer is,as most rods are bought and finished by the sellers.

Can anyone indicate the cheapest UK source for IE drilled rods?

Backdraught motorsports and JBS don't give much change from £500 for H-Beam and £600 for I-beam Tuscans

That's how much they are. You have to remember companies need to pay all the import taxes and vat. As such they have to pass it on

That sounds pretty much average for a decent set of rods.

Don't forget that if something is unusually cheap,it's usually for a good reason, and the old saying of building something cheap and building it twice is also true.

I bought cheap and deeply regret it. I had to have them machined to make them usable when they failed

Like I said,I know next to nothing about the 1.8,and I'm happy to learn from you guys.

I only mentioned them as a thought on another supplier, plus the thing about literally all of the sources we tried at one time being unable to supply simultaneously.....got us thinking about where the unfinished rods come from.....

IE are superb though....I've just bought a pile of their stuff, and am very pleased indeed with it.

you know more about these things than me im sure.
oem rods on these cars have been rifle drilled.
hence why most say its essential (among other reasons of course)
this genrally adds to the cost of the rods so some go for non drilled. which obviously doesnt provide the same level of lubricant to the bearings.
plenty of stories of people running non drilled fine
plenty of stories where they arent.
same as most things. its a lottery!!!!
i hate cars!!!

8P I may know a bit about, but only as a result of places like this, and as I've said before, what you're all getting out of the 1.8 leaves me knowing how much more the 8P community has to do.

I think when you get to a certain level with each engine, you need all of the tweaks and experience you can get to avoid grenading an engine.
I've got a couple of mates getting around 350bhp/litre from their cars, and the help they've given me has been invaluable.
