Anyone retrofitted S-tronic?

Top work, but I must ask.. What's the reason for changing to an auto?

A few reasons tbh, I busted my elbow pretty bad a few years back and I struggle with it a bit. I have another car with DSG that I was just using all the time and the S3 was just sitting there not being used. I could of taken the bits off and sold it but.... As I was after a Mk2 Golf as a project car and I had this sitting in the garage that I've had from new in mint condition I decided to make this the project car. I've loomed everything as it came from factory even down to the tape they use to protect the wires so it's been a fun project.

im glad to see you got it done mate, have you finished the how to so i can read it in ameazment :)

Lol, yeah it's all done. I'm just waiting to get the box mapped. It's driving fine up to about 3/4 throttle. I'm pushing too much power and the box starts restricting power. When that's done I'll get a proper review done.

Time to reawaken your thread....

Storm Developments, who are working on my car, have got me interested in a DSG swap.

Which box did you use...was it the 6 or 7 speed?

Isn't the 7 speed weaker than the 6 speed or has issues compared to the 6 speed?

Although I don't claim to have any tech ability or knowledge, I'd go 6 speed simply because there are bits of info floating around in my head saying the 6 speed is a wet clutch setup and 'more reliable' than the 7. Also, isn't the factory DSG in a S3 6 speed?

Without wanting to cause a manual vs DSG thread, DSG really is better, lol :p

If I understand correctly the TTRS and RS3 use a stronger 7 speed DQ500 version of the S-tronic box.
The clutch is designed for an engine torque of up to 600 Nm
However there might be more tuning / clutch pack options available for the the more common box?

any issues retrofitting DSG to a prefacelift? what about issues with the ECU and coding it in?

There are certainly clutch pack options, and the recommended box was the 7 speed one from the Tiguan....

I'm now using an aftermarket ECU from Syvecs, which has less issues with this sort of thing.

Yeah S3's are equipped with the 6 Speed DSG. It's a nice transmission. But acts weirdly in traffic lol not all the time tho

Mine does 3rd to 2nd. It may be synchro on first gear. I suspect my second gear synchro
Not in an DSG.
Just a quirk of the electronics not knowing what to do next.

S3 Alex

how much are you getting quoted for the conversion? ....really intersted in this.

of course, the alternative is just sell up and spend another 5-6k on another S3 which has the goodies (different kettle of fish if youve already spent alot modding the car)

The cheaper option is likely to be a DSG S3,but for me,this wouldn't be an option.
Also, having the Syvecs ECU will make the retrofit easier,as there isn't the factory ECU to clash with.

The prices I don't know yet, although some DSG boxes can be had for under £1k,but I would need uprated clutch packs to cope with over 500lbs of torque.

I think at a guess I 'd be looking at a few thousand again.....

ahh ok, sorry, thought the company actually offered a package for interested people like ourselves..

keep us informed of how it goes..

I think like all of these things, they're done to order,as it's quite a niche thing.

You would likely have as many problems as Decked did if you used the factory ECU,but he has done all of the groundowrk,so you'd know what you need in advance.

I have the advantage of that amazingly versatile race ECU,which can control other parts on the CAN-BUS in a different way.

Holy ****! How did I miss out on this
I had the same idea/wish on my quattro TDI before I replaced it.

Great work. Now please let us know what is the secret :jump:

Looking into doing something similar, would be great to get some input on my thoughts.
Do you need to change the CanBus gateway?
What are the changes to the hosing for the manual transmission fluid ?
Advise on the wiring, no need for exact details, just a indication would be great =)
Can pedals be fitted from the inside the car or do you need to remove the engine?
Is the gearbox selector fitted from underneath the car or from inside?

You'd need to read the whole of Decked's thread her and on VAGOC,if you plan to use the stock ECU.

For anyone planning on using a Syvecs ECU,Storm are the people to contact, but it's not a cheap piece of kit.

I did read this entire thread, is there another ?
I'll do some search for it on vagoc.

I didn't change the gateway, I simply added the wires and coded (but most was plug and play).
No changes for transmission fluid
Wires looks something like this:

Pedals can be done from inside & under the car, no need to remove the engine.
Selector is fitted from under the car, you need to move the prop, exhaust and heat shield to slide it in (but i had do that bit for me :thumbs up:)

Great feedback, really big thank you !!!
Is the clutch pressure hose connected to the manual gearbox simply plugged?

Great Post DeckedS3 ! You mention you wrote a guide about how to do this retrofit, could you send it to me please? Thinking of doing this on my 2010 TT 1.8. Thanks!

hello,

sorry to dig up this topic :)

I have an a3 8P 2010 1.6 TDi with Manual gearbox and I wanted to change to automatic gearbox, is it possible? can i apply dq250?

Or does it have to be the dq200?

Thanks a lot

Not to be "that guy" who continues to necro this thread... but I would really like to get a copy of the retrofit guide you put together @DeckedS3
I have a place to do the retrofit for me, however it would be great to have your guide as a reference on what parts are required; since I have a donor S3 that i'm sourcing the parts from.

Also, VAGOC seems to no longer exist; so viewing the original thread is not possible.

I have a Manual facelift 8P S3, and going ahead with the DSG swap. Would really appreciate if you could send a copy of that guide my way!
