Need to top up my coolant level today (just below min so about 250ml) before heading off to France on business in the morning and not got time today to get to a mail dealer for a bottle of G13 but have a halfords 10 mins away...advice please on whether use of the comma stuff for a top is a no no or not.

Does it meet VW TL-774 J ?

That is the G13 spec.

But I don't think it should be losing any coolant :/

Its going some where............... you need to find out why it's dropped before a big journey in particular.

Meets the spec according to Halfords!!

Was thinking the same about where it is going particularly in light of the pump leakage issue. But maybe it is just me being OCD as loss is only marginal and fluid level was only ever just above min from new and car is a year old at end of the week.

If your mixing I seriously would not use the halfords stuff, engine coolant should never be mixed unless topping up with the same, pop off to Audi ( that's if sales will get what you need from parts ).

Also on topping up, a month ago I was doing regular checks and my coolant was low, topped it up for the first time in 4 years. Keep checking and not lost any, very strange.

But yes it's a sealed system and should not loose any coolant and this USUALLY means there is a leak / issue.

Well against my better judgement I am going to go for the Halfords option.....no audi or VW service centres open locally and none of the local sales departments had "access" to service parts.

At least with the Halfords option if the worse does happen while in France this week I will have some spare coolant to top up with in an emergency.

Some coolant is always better than no coolant.

Will be fine, as far as I was aware it's the newer version of G13, Halfords internal system which checks coolant spec against the car registration will recommend it, in which case you have their recommendation IF anything were to go wrong because of it (it won't) you can always refer back to them for recommending it to you.

I supplied it to my garage when I have a full change done after a popped radiator and they confirmed it was absolutely fine (both techs worked VW/Audi for 10 years)
