Hi guys I'm after a bit of advice, my da31 pump is running rather loud and getting louder even in the car, I have spoken to driven 2 automotive which advised me that the pumps aren't supposed to be run any less than an 8 mm inlet and outlet on the pump and that the it should be no less than 12mm but they recommend 15mm.
Has anyone else suffered with this and could anyone advise me on the best course of action and I don't want this to get any worse and damage anything, they have told me that the fuel supply sounds like it's being restricted which is why it's whining and getting louder.

some are louder than others. no rhyme or reason for it.
Only near silent way these pumps run is feeding from a large bore in a swirl pot.

It's just at the point where it's that loud it's unbearable so I didn't know whether getting some bigger outlets on the pump and running some hose right upto the front would take the strain off the pump and dampen the noise a little.

How is it mounted on the car? Solidly or do you have it dampened (with rubber sleeve/foam tape/etc)?

My DA-31 in my Golf is very quiet and it's mounted inside the cabin in the rear with no seats etc. Mine is fed from a Surge tank as Bill posted though so that may be the reason for my quiet running.
 
What's a surge tank??
Don't know much about this thing all I know is I'm fed up of the noise and I'll pay to have it removed at this moment in time.
Mine is mounted under the car where most people have added it with silicone pipe round it, it just seems excessively loud which is driving me nuts.

Surge tank or swirl pot as its also known as... essentially a reservoir for the fuel.... intank acts as a lift pump and fills the swirl pot, inline uses the fuel in the swirl pot..

There are various types of swirl pot available depending on how you want to go about it..
