The DPF light on my 58 A3 2.0 TDI Quattro 170 has just come on and I've driven it for approx 50 mins on the motorway ay 2500rpm, 60mpn in 5th gear and the light is still on.
Could anyone advise if there is anything else I can do before having to resort to taking it into the garage?

That drive should be enough for it to do a regen, a lot of people crack on about driving at 3k rpm+ for extended periods, but IIRC I once saw a promo video from Audi that said anything above 2krpm sustained for over 20 minutes is adequate, as the ECU decides to do a regen and alters fuel flow to increase Exhaust Gas Temperatures to the required level.

A garage is probably your best best to be honest.

If a sensor has failed then no amount of driving will clear the light as the car will not initiate the regen. In fact what you will be doing is filling the DPF up :(

Either find a member local to you with VCDS or its a trip to a garage

As above, the trip to a garage may not be as bad as you are expecting. The DPF may be fine, it may be a faulty sensor, which no amount of high rev driving will fix.

or remove the pressure sensor and drill a ****** hole through the cat and dpf , then refit the sensor rev it and blow all the crap out the exhaust , if sensor is ok theres a very good chance light will go out and stay out permanently and as there is still some back pressure in the exhaust the ecu still thinks the dpf is complete so never brings on the mil light ,but also never fills with soot and ash as it has a hole through it
