Stacey's Belated Yo Yo Build Thread

New addition to the VAG family :)



It's got 165k but one owner from new and been bought, serviced and traded back in all at the same dealership

Only downside to that is that has had long life servicing

Will be shortly doing the cam belt, servicing it and sorting drivers window

All in all think I got a fantastic deal though :)

while you doing the belt, change the high pressure fuel pump cam follower, if that little ****** breaks the fuel pump valve stem destroys the intake camshaft lobe, plus a lot more other related damage can occur :(

Yeah stepped up to a wagon with soon to be 2 young children with associated accessories, this will be the smarter family motor and Mrs hack about as she has eventually accepted to part with her first car, the ka sport is far to small and it failed it's MOT with rust etc (more work delaying the S3 and it's rapidly growing list of jobs)

Still got the golf mk4 but that gets used and abused, spends most of its time with no rear seats being treated like a van....was only last week had over 600kg if scrap cable in there and was nearly scraping on the ground lol

Affraid stuck to the darkside with this one and have gone for another derv but 2.0 tdi 140 bhp, map is already being investigated ;)

Well it has been a while since updating and a lot has happened and been going on

First of all tried something new by doing the bodywork on the mrs Ka by cutting sections out, followed by welding plates in and fillering over. I sprayed it with rattle cans and am very pleased with the results :)

The wagon got a thorough service plus a poxy window cable mech replaced, only issue I've got now is a suspect injector causing occasional juddering, poor starting and bit smoky on boost....problem is I now need to acquire a new vcds cable as my other one has crapped out

Now the interesting stuff....

I'll let the pics (although not many) do the talking ;)

Start them young hey, she was overseeing me changing the mrs's injectors loom



Cars is one of her most used words usually accompanied with a pointing finger

Just tought her to say engine...one step at a time lol

Could be worse though....she's trying to keep it in the family (vag family) could be after a Honda ;)

Whats wrong with Honda's?
They are slow so they must be safe, save fuel and you wont get a speeding ticket.

MK4 R32 is a good idea, you can rob it for parts :)

Haha good point :)

One thing I do envy about hondas though is how light they are in comparison but that is definitely a trade off to the refinement we get

Managed to get some time on the car, although doesn't feel like I have achieved a lot especially to look at, but was on the right go slow as finished my last shift this morning and was up and about with less than 2 hours kip

Anyhows have now got all the sound deadening I can see off abd started pulling bits out of the dash

Ive now removed all the airbags, I know I can just put resistors in they're place but does anyone know if I can remove the lot including the loom, control module etc? As really want to get rid of as much clutter as possible

There is nothing sensible about a road going big turbo S3 ;)

Bumble's been my summer daily since buying her from welly....it does normally take the winter to fix the problems the summer had caused though

Could ask questions like

Rough spec
How long owned
How long of ownership off the road
Any major failures

And I suppose if we wanted it to have a sensible approach could ask if theyd do anything different again lol
 
And on another note with yours being on the road at the moment has reminded ne that mines been off the road for nearly a year now :(

Happened to break just after moving and of coarse house took priority

Next spring summer is now my realistic goal :)
 
Managed to get a little more done today...

Got the dash off then came up to the support bar, which from what i understand is replaced by a dash bar on the cage so it had to come out with all the attached mounts

Ive made a couple of measurements to help me relocate them back in some kind of simular location afterwards



Once that was out it all began to look a bit of a mess with wires/loom everywhere lol



Ive now come to the heating system which not to sure how this lump is attached with no obvious bolts etc in view (not had a great deal of time to look as had to pack up for work)



Also can anyone help me with regards to what i can get away with just removing from the loom without completely buggering the car up? Was for example wondering if i can just remove this airbag module and associated wires?



Next BIG decision on the cards is rollcage!

Can't make my mind up between a multipoint or something a bit nearer to clubman spec, i know the clubman will be more than ample but keep thinking along the lines of the safer i can make it the better?

Any thoughts guys?
 
Managed to get an hour or so on it this afternoon

Took some doing but managed to locate the fixings holding in the heater assembly

There was 4 nuts with large washers hidden behind the heatshield and sound deadening at the bulkhead in the engine bay



They were located behind the little tabs



This is how its all looking in there now.....very bare and sparse



All need to do now is remove all the tar like substance, any excess tabs fixing points etc cut off that aren't needed, thin the loom amd wiring down then its time to fit the cage.....

Really got to pull my finger out make a decision and order one
 
I thought you was building a car not dismantling it....

Worst bit is got to try and remember how to put it all back together :think:

Haha it was always destined for this eventually, I said I will never part with it by selling it and will end up being a stripped out track toy but got to admit I never thought it would come round this soon

Biggest influencing change was a year ago with the new job at sainsburys which is a 95mile commute and saw me getting the derv

It has since then turned the S3 to toy status :)

Also if anyone sees any tuned/fast dervs for sale let me know as want a new daily that will help feed the need for speed
 
Mate, there's going to be nothing left. Should be able to shed a fair bit of weight though.

So are you selling those billet bulkhead adapters you got? ;)

Haha it will be getting some stuff refitted, i intend on keeping the heating etc so as of the moment will be needing the billet fittings

But don't you worry my australian vulture you will be first to know if i'm getting rid ;)

Am interested to see what weight it ends up with the cage being around 50kg, am not going all out to loose the weight but if anything can be removed without to much effort or impact it will be going, hoping to get arounfd the 1300kg mark but will wait and see....
 
Haha sorry it did seem a bit vulture like. Going to remove the AC? There was a company on Vortex that done an AC delete kit with a smaller alternator too. Could be worth a look. I would remove it but AC is definitely needed here :(

Anything helps weight wise, checking out the vids Nick posted of his track day. First in his A3 and then Jardo's S3 you can see the A3 seems a lot more nimble.
 
Haha dont take it to heart I can be a bit of a magpie myself

Aircon is long gone....sold the compressor a couple of months back ;) I figured if I hadnt had it gassed in 3 years then I could do without out it

Really hoping to get the weight down of the lardass but time will tell

Can always get one at a later date....its healthy to have a project besides the house ;)

Cant wait to get it back, it shoukd hopefully feel a very different car to drive, in aimibg for spring but who knows eh

When I do I will revisit bedford so will drop you a line as on your doorstep :)

By far the best thing to use to remove the "tar" ( actually bitumin ) is diesel ;)
Take it from someone in the road construction industry :D

Thanks basil, will remember that next time :)

Ive managed to get it all off so far in the boot and rear seat area its just the driver and passanger footwells left

I found this on ebay and its been good at removing it although diesel would have been a lot cheaper
