Grill Time!

I've got a 2010 S3 Sportback in black and I'm thinking of changing the front grill due to too much chrome for my liking.

Now the questions I have are:

- Replace it with a RS3 grill or Black edition grill?
- is it easy to swap over (I'm a complete noob when it comes to car work)
- where's the best place to buy it from

Thanks in advance!

I've been eyeing up this one lately: eBay - Item # 111424663072

I like that the plate and ring mounts aren't already attached to the grille. I don't plan to have the big rings on the grille, just the number plate mount. I did wonder though about the big aluminium-coloured bar that sits just behind the bumper and whether it would show through, meaning that I'd need to paint it black or something.

I'm no expert but from what I've seen on other threads I think the aluminum bar does show through.

You will be able to see the crash bar through it yes; my advice is to plastidip it from a rattle can, reversible and you won't get spray on anything else accidentally and irreversibly - something to note though is that I don't think the RS3 grill is a straight for to the S3 bumper as it's an inch too short I think, but then I don't own an S3 so can't be sure!

A combination of Plastidip and placing the number plate mount in that area to obscure it should do the trick. Thanks RS3dan! :)

The crash bar will need painted. You have the facelift version so the RS3 grill will fit straight in to your bumper with NO modification.

A lot of people get the RS3 grill from a company called xenonz. Find him on Ebay or google. He does good quality grills with perfect fitment. £250 posted.

Cheers guys!

What about the black editions black grills? Worth pursuing?

Just got done fitting my Xenonz RS3 grille - love it. Also fitted MY11 rear light clusters too for a darker look.

There was a dark piece of polystyrene type foam which covered the crash bar when I removed the bumper, so that's gone back into the new grille and covers the crash bar nicely - no need for Plastidip here! Win :D

Pic?

I'll sort one out in the daylight tomorrow. I was so into the work today I didn't take any 'durings' unfortunately. I'm not particularly handy with cars, so it was intense at times for me.

Done mine a while back, all u need is nice sunny day and few tools, DIY job, as d3mon wrote, put back the dark piece of polystyrene type foam and u won't c the crash bar + it will support ur grill, cos its not made from the strongest material ;)

Thanks Bob. The B-pillars are direct from Audi. Fixed on with 3 rivets

I've been thinking about this. I think I'm going to go the Plastidip route. Much easier.

Yeah, I'm in two minds about the lip - I'd like it in black, but I'm not sure if it's style that way to match the wheel colour, which makes sense.

i know wot u mean, i'll be doing my wheels and rear valance in black as well to tie everything in... it's all about overall look ;)

Yeah, it's a tough call for me. Will you paint them yourself or get someone to do it?

I would say that on black car it might be a step too far, but on my ice silver it should ( i hope cos they r black now n theres no going back :anonymous: ) be sweet :) ...no, i had them done by local bodyshop, i would never get that kind of gloss finish with halfords s''t cans , cost me 100 £ for lip and valance, but finish is well worth it :)

Gloss black lip and valance looks good guys - was thinking about that on mine as well

thx , i just felt like gloss grill was a bit lonely, looked a bit out of place, now looks spot on, not sure about fog grills  i guess that's the thing with modding once u do one thing u notice more stuff needing change n more money spent:tumble:

Yeah now I've got the gloss rs6 grill in mine I'm thinking about doing the fog grills gloss as well..

One of mine is broken and needs replacing anyway so might be a good reason to do it

i wait 4 standart stuff to break on mine just to justify spending some more money on modded replacement parts :)

Haha like letting it run out of oil to justify a supercharged RS4 engine conversion :yahoo:
