Hi guys;

Wondering if you lot can help me...

Ive bought an 8L S3 for my wife a few months ago but due to work commitments etc and the fact that she didnt like it lol it hasnt been driven.

Ive had some time off work and got the car cleaned and put back on road but having some probs.

First of all when driving it; it down on power; almost like the turbo isnt doing anything at all; but when you rev it you can hear the turbo whistling...

Ive connected it to the vagcom and its bought up a n249 fault code but at close inspection it looks like the n249 has been bypassed which makes me think is the reason its bringing up that code.

Now i cant seem to find any decent mechanics in my area and most are full of sh1t. Im based in berkshire; can you reccommend someone and does anyone have any ideas on exactly what it could be...

One dopey mechanic has told me the turbo is gone; but i think its something along the lines of a vacuum leak.

Any ideas??

Help would be much appreciated

is the n249 valve still there and connected electrically?

Its not there at all buddy; the eletrical wire is just hanging...

Is it supposed to be like that?

When the delete is done it should be left in place and plugged in. Just bypassed by removing the spiderweb of pipes.

The wires with the clip should be plugged into the electrical connector on the n249 valve, if u don't have the valve u will have no where to plug it in.

Thats why the n249 valve fault is coming up; but from reading the forum ive gathered that not having the n249 valve shouldnt really make the turbos not kick in.

I think i have a vacuum leak; ive found 1 already and think there maybe a couple more which the mecahic will check tomarrow. The leak ive found is on the vacuum hose under the manifold.

Question now is that will a vacuum leak make the turbos not kick in?

Excuse me i dont know f all about mechanics lol

I was answering this question specialifically but yes a leak more likely in the charge or boost pipes would result in turbo not kicking in and a loud spooling noise from the turbo. Check all the clamps are tight and check the L shaped pipe that goes from the turbo to the charge pipe they are prone to splitting.

Buddy I can hear the turbo spooling when revving the car but cant hear any leaks at all in terms of whooshing sounds.
Ive had whooshing sounds when I had my rs6; when the intercooler pipe had come loose.

But im not getting any such noises here; just not getting the turbo kick in. Weird...
Could it be the turbo is fcuked? But then again it cant be as i can hear it spool...

i doubt the turbos f'ed, youd know about it if it was. This is what mine sounded like when it died

Yeah my turbo to charge pipe hose burst and I couldn't hear any whooshing noises just notably louder spooling. It could however be your n75 valve. Getting some diagnostics done would help a lot.

Yes its going to a specialist tomarrow and hopefully they diagnose it properly.
Its not smoking or making any loud noises so must be a valve or leak somewere.
Also were is the n75 valve locatated on the s3?
If the N75 valve was ****** up would it bring up a fault code?
Fingers crossed it a minor and well find out in the morning.

It's close to the dump valve and turbo intake pipe. It's a little square job with a bunch of vacuum lines attached to it. Let us know what the specialists find incase anyone else has the same issues. Hope its something simple and it gets sorted soon. All the best.

Yes will update in the morning.
Fingers crossed all is well; whats the price of the n75 on the s3 from tps?
Also what about the wastegate? I was reading something about this being seized?
But then again tell me if im wrong; will lack of vacuum also cause this?

surely not having the n249 plugged in can cause limp mode?
you have any idea what boost levels you are running?
via boost gauge etc

Maybe if your wastgate is stuck open all the boost is being wasted. The n75 controls the actuator so could be either one. Not sure on the price at tps. I'm in durban south Africa we don't have a look the great stores you guys have access to.

Can it? I dont know... Ill see what the specialist says tomarrow...
I dont know boost at all; no boost guage.

It certainly effected my car when my n249 was not plugged in due to a broken wire I'm not sure if it went into limp mode but the car definately doesn't feel right when it's not plugged in.

From what I know and confirmed with a quick search reveals it doesn't cause the car to go into limp mode however the n75 can.

really i just read it can hahahaha!!
obvious thing to do seeing this is the first actual issue we know of is get one plugged in. then re assess

Ill hopefully have the specialist chime in on what he thinks it is tomarrow.
Anyone in the berkshire area on this forum?

Ok boys update...

First of all I cant believe we have such **** mechanics in our area. Absolutely ridiculous!

Went to three this morning that were all saying it was just a vacuum leak; which i knew it wasnt; even though 1 of the hoses had a small split.
But from my experience of turbo cars that wasnt enough for it to be not giving any boost at all.

1 of the mechanics even said i needed a new turbo as the actuator was seized! What a ***** he was.

Found a good mechanic which i didnt call as i had been told he has been ill and in and out of hospital.
Ran into him and he sorted my problem; car is know running sweet and pulling like a train.
Will be dynoing it soon but looks like its pusing near 300bhp as it is crazy fast.

Faults were:
N75, faulty DV and intercooler pipe fitted incorrectly.
£150 all sorted including parts!

Happy

what mechanics did you use in the end?
whats the full spec of the car?

Excellent we weren't far off. Bit sad we didn't think of a faulty dump valve though. Next time gadget next time. Thanks for the update enjoy the driving ;)
