Morning gents,

Yesterday morning around 7:45ish had an accident with another car whom passed the red light and hit the driver's side whereby the car spun a couple of times, lucky enough I was that didn't die, he was clearly doing 50 to 60 MPH and he totally agreed it was his fault...

I was going towards Heathrow airport through Great West London (A4) and he was coming from windmill road towards Boston Manor road (A3002)

After exchanging details with the other driver I contacted police and explained the situation and they said to contact insurance company, but as I was over the phone the other driver just drove-off and then police arrived, told them what exactly happened and they checked his details to see if it was accurate... NOW I'm not quite sure why did he drove off and denied to contact his insurance company in the first place

Also it was quite difficult for me to communicate with him as he couldn't speak English...
Any idea guys!?!?...

Anyway, then the insurance company sent a recovery and all sorted, now since yesterday my only worry is if he doesn't accepts the fault... as you could see in Google maps, regardless of the light he should have given way to coming traffic, so it's definitely his fault...

Also would I have any advantage over his disappearance...

The car had only done 38k miles on the clock, such a lovely car it was, now I can't think off anything else but to get some of the money back and go for something better...

I quite believe if it was any other car, the chassis couldn't tolerate and I could have easily been dead, I'm so happy about that :)

Hope you all be driving safely and DON'T ever rely on the lights, there are stupid drivers everywhere...
Cheers

OUCH! That looks like it could've been very nasty. Glad to hear you're ok and feeling positive with regards to the car... it's only a lump of metal at the end of the day.

Idiots are everywhere though, unfortunately! It could happen to anyone at any time. Scary

Wow that's some impact tbh, lucky I'd say even if the cars a goner.

Always call the police in these situations at 1st point, also make sure you make it difficult for them to leave tbh as these days so many aren't insured, have fake ID etc, just have to protect yourself.

Looking at the damage to yours, his radiator must've taken a good bashing, so he wouldn't make it very far IMO.

Thank you all guys, appreciate that :) well he was driving a Toyota Gumry I guess it was, quite an old car... Proper banger but still was able to drive off, here is what happened to his front-end

Thanks

One quick question, what would happens if this guy changed his mind to basically not
Accepting the fault ?!? What's best I should do? Many thanks

I was thinking to save myself some money and go for either s3 sportsback or s5 v8

Cheers

sorry to see that happened to you

do you have any independent witnesses to the accident - that will always help

I say it's pretty straight forward what happened from the results so you won't have a problem there you just have to hope he was insured

Ouch ...car looks like it took it well though, and you're not hurt ...are you sure your neck doesn't hurt just a little? :barbershop quartet member:

He left the scene of an accident, so unless he drove to a Police station and reported it there, he'll be found liable. Even if he wasn't insured, which may well be the case or he wouldn't have driven off, your Insurance will pay out as long as you're Fully Comp.

Your insurance will offer you the bare minimum - never accept the first offer - then be prepared to get phone calls every week for the next 5 years telling you you were injured in an accident and you need to claim. :keule:

Thank you guys,
Yes he was insured and I'm full comp insured

The other thing is how many offers does insurance company makes in general if I don't accept the first one...?!?

Bear in mind this is my first accident within 10 years of driving! And to some of you seems silly question...

Thanks

Wow, that looks like quite an impact. Shows they make crumple zones far better these days, with a modern car I bet you would be looking at crumpled bonnet/wings/bumper destroyed along with rad gone etc.

The main thing is you're alright OP.

Let your insurance company argue it with his, just provide an honest account of what happened and hopefully all will go smoothly.

If their first offer is below what you expect for your car you are going to have to back up the fact you think you are entitled to more, so start looking at similar age/mileage/condition cars for sale and taking copies of the adverts. There's no telling how many offers the insurance company will make, they may not even move from their first offer, but they usually do if your car was particularly straight and clean. Bear in mind you may never get out of them the same amount you would get if you sold it privately. Insurance companys aren't always as bad as people make out, sometimes they do go with a low ball offer, sometimes they surprise you with a realistic and fair offer first time out.

Best of luck, and as I said, the main thing is you are ok, cars can always be replaced, lives can't.

I'm betting he gave you someone else's name and policy details, the Police would have found him out, so he bolted. But as said, you're fully comp, so you're covered.

as for how many offers, argue until you get the true value of your car. find similar examples and give them a genuine cost of replacement.

Last major bump I was in the guy gave details which were correct but bolted when the police were called. He was going home from the pub, which explains that.

Hope you all had a great weekend and bank holiday :)

Just a quick question regarding the value of my car, was wondering how much should my asking price be as they'll most likely contact me either by tomorrow or Wednesday!

Here is what my car spec was, was looking over AutoTrader and there aren't many A3 V6s with FSH and low mileage and only 2 former keepers, there are two or three and they are roughly for £6,500 to £7k but with nowhere near my car's condition and specs;

FASH every approx 8 months or every 5000 miles
2 former keepers including me
38k miles on the clock
TAXED and MOT'd till next year Apri 2015
Bose sound system
RNSE
Full leather seats

Now how much do you reckon I should ask for?

Also...

Just had brand new tyres and brand new BBS CH alloys which cost me around £1,500 about 3 months ago, (as you can see in the photos, the right side rims looks buckled and tyre flattened, is it still worth it taking them off and replacing them with the original s-line rims and tyre or should I not be bothered)...

I don't want to risk taking them off and when it comes to inspection, they say "why did i removed them"...

Is it possible to do that... also the rear lights were new MY11 just put them on about week ago! Damn it... but there were undamaged... now should I replace them with their original ones...

Or should I completely forget about them!?!

Thank you all guys, really appreciate your replies :)

Just keep the pressure on for a figure you want. When somebody wrote off my A2 I just kept rejecting offers until they gave me what I wanted after adding recipts to an average of the auto-trader comparables (the car had a gearbox rebuild and clutch a month earlier, no way I was swallowing that!!)

In the end I got more than I thought I would and maybe more than I should but as it was no-fault, I just stuck to my guns.

Account for everything you can and stick to your position. Remember, they are giving you "what it would cost to replace like-for-like".

Ouch that looks nasty, hope your feeling ok mate.

You said you added alloys to the car, did you tell your insurance company about them prior to them being fitted? As few companies will refuse payouts if a car has been altered from standard without telling them (they usually bump up the premiums if its modded). As for the rear lights I would just forget them, if the car is to be scrapped you can usually ask to get some bits off the car before its crushed (I did this on a previous car of mine) so you could remove them at that point. And anything else you can easily get off. But I would never buy or use alloys from a car that was involved in an accident, you never know what hairline fractures there could be!

But fingers crossed the insurance pays out a reasonable figure!

Good luck.

Sorry to hear about your accident but, as everyone else has mentioned at least you're okay.

You've done some research on the likely value of your car. If I were you I'd have a figure in mind ?(only you will know what this is) but, imagine that you'll need to back up your figure with facts. So print out ads of cars with spec close to yours. The figure you should look for is the cost to replace yours like for like. As for your new tyres this could add a few hundred to your claim if you have receipts etc. As for the alloys and other mods be very careful. If you didn't notify your insurance of these then they have every right to refuse a claim.

Bear in mind companies go to great lengths nowadays to ensure all claims are valid. We had a car stolen and were about to be paid out when suddenly the claim went 'under investigation'. Courtesy car was taken off us and no explanation was given immediately as to why. It turns out the insurance company had found out we entered our car registration on the 'we buy any car website' a few months prior. I did this as it was the first time I'd seen the advert and my curiosity got the better of me to see what they would offer. I did nothing more than enter the registration. No other details were entered after the first page! To say this took me by surprise is an understatement. I lodged a formal complaint and was quickly assigned a contact and the courtesy car reinstated. The car was then found - which wasn't really what we wanted as it was now logged as stolen recovered. So beware and be honest with your insurer. PM sent.

Thanks guys :)

Yeah I'll forget about the alloys as it's not worth it... yeah I'll tell 'em it was on the car when I bought it...

For the tyres I bought them off camskill.co.uk so maybe I could obtain a receipt from them as I don't have any email from them!!!

I've removed the photos for this thread as they were on G+ Photos, however they still appear at the top!?! Is there any moderator here who could remove the photos from the thread?

Cheers

Farzad don't think for one minute the insurance co. won't find this thread and use it as evidence to bring your claim payout down ...maybe edit some posts a little?

But then as the wheels are original Audi, they might class them as standard - I know some do. Just be careful with your wording in your claim.

Thanks buddy but the problem is once you post something you can't edit it afterwards!!!
I've already contacted the site admin to amend some stuff but still haven't heard anything back!?!

Does anybody knows a moderator who could perhaps do this?!

Thanks

Glad you are okay after that accident......Know where that happened as I live in Hayes and am originally from West Ealing.....As your car has taken the impact I would hope they would rule in your favour especially as he jumped the lights and was most likely breaking the speed limit especially if he was on the windmill road crossing the Great West Road.....Hopefully you will get another 3.2er back on the streets of West London.

Used to live on a road not far from there, very busy junction with lots of impatient drivers in the morning. Glad you're OK a remember to be straight with your ins company as there's no point in paying the premium in the first place if they can invalidate the claim because you've not declared everything. Best of luck getting it sorted.

Thank you both guys :) really appreciate that :thumbs up:

I've now got constant pain in my neck, shoulder and arm, was at hospital last week and was seen again by my doctor on Tuesday, literally can't move my neck and arm at all and been advised to stay home for next two weeks to get better, so I'm off work now :( so damn boring... and too much pills :3sadwalk: as well as falling asleep a lot:lazy:

Yes I did mate but still haven't heard anything back! Hope she sees my PM!

why cant i see any pictures of the damaged car ? a few months ago my a3 got hit by an articulated lorry spun the car and damaged the full side of the car , luckily no one hurt and no suspension or chassis damage , i rebuilt it new quarter pannel 2 doors and front wing ,then resprayed the whole car for less than £1000 . company paid out of their own pocket £3600 .the price my brother quoted from his garage .
happened on a round about max i would have got is a 50/50 claim through insurance .

Sorry I asked Sandra to remove the photos... as I may have problem later on... so better removing them now before insurance company identifies the car!!!

I can PM you if you want!

Thanks

i see the problem you have , 3 door with alot of lower sill damage , mine was damaged higher up as it was a lorry so had no sill damage at all .can still remember seeing the iveco badge through the drivers window . and mine is sportback so rear quarter is alot shorter than urs .
looks like it impacted almost smack bang in the centre

Just an update:
It's really funny how my insurance company can't chase this up, honestly it's been 10 days since the accident and they are still struggling to contact the other insurance company... It's seriously poor :(

Meh car was recovered, then picked up by a salvage company and nothing more other than that... Is this how it's supposed to be or something's wrong, already called them couple of time and they probably have my name on board as one their most annoying clients but I don't really care... They been absolutely shocking to me so far!

I'm with bell as part of admiral :/

Cheers

This is the time when you find out how good your insurance company is, you pay all this money year in year out and when you fianally do come to use your insurance you get treated like this, hope it gets sorted soon mate

That's insurance companies for you, happy to take your money but when you need them they are as slack as Peter Stringfellow's underpants...

When I wrote-off an old car of mine years ago they were pretty slow getting on with it, it took a good few weeks. However the salvage depo that took the car was more than happy to let me come over and take bits from it, in fact two days after the accident I went there and they allowed me to get what I wanted, including headunit, cables etc...

Goodluck mate, just be glad your not in a bad way, it could be much worse!

Just an update...

They finally got back to me tonight, they offered me £4,800 and they're going to dispose the car within week time!
What do you guys reckon, however I did try to make it around £5,500 but they didn't accept at all, they said either I take this or appeal to be reviewed again by their engineers :( I've never heard of such thing before...

Any suggestions?!

Also are guys aware whether I could take some of the parts of the car like the leather seats, steering wheel, etc. ?!?

Cheers

I would would do some research, find a similar spec and year car to yours and get back to them.

Does that price include the excess taken off already?

Yes, my excess was 1000

I already have, they go for 6k with a more mileage than mine, but I don't think they consider mileage at all, I guess they go for market value !!!

Cheers

Finally after a few phone calls I had with them they increased to 5,400!!! It was the final re-valuation based on some ads on AutoTrader and WeBuyAnyCar...

It isn't as bad as I thought it would be and I'm happy with what I'll get despite all the money spent on brand new BBS CH alloys and new Eagle F1 tyres and AP X coils!!!

Well that's it, now I only have up until mid Nov to buy a new car in order to be able to use my current insurance policy :)

Was thinking to get either M3 E92 or S4 V6T or S5 V6T...
Any other cars you could think of?!?!

I want something sporty with around 350ish HP, coupe and either to be Quattro or RWD

Any thoughts?

Cheers

S4 & S5 are nice cars and can be easily tuned up to 420bhp but are a bit thirsty, a mate of mine has one and can get less than 18mpg when pushing on

Well to be honest I don't really care about mpg as I'm only doing 5k miles a year!!!

I'm looking for something to be hold its value like the s3s...

Budget up to 22k

Thanks anyway

Were you able to get bits from your car?

No mate and I did specifically asked this, but they said the car isn't safe to be reused regardless... They have already disposed it...

I wish I could have use that engine...

Cheers
