Well this is a new one on me. It stalls on me sometimes when setting off.

Done it at the same place twice now. up hill T junction, just about stopped then accelerated to go and bang, it stalled.

Went round the block and tried it again at the same spot and it nearly stalled but saved itself.

Is this expected? Some common fault or should I go see Audi?

(Its a 2011 3.0 V6 TDI quattro S-Tronic)

Edit: wrong year

No stop start on this model.

Mine doesn't stall, but sometimes the stop / start can catch you out and this does seem like it's stalled, basically when you're coming to a stop at a junction, if you keep the brake pedal pressed hard enough to activate the stop start the engine will cut, even for just a split second before re starting as you ease the pressure on the brake. It can be annoying, especially at a give way when the engine restarts almost before it stops, I have got used to it now and rarely have it cut out unexpectedly. If this is what's happening to you it's normal and nothing to worry about, if on the other hand your car is stalling and you are having to physically re start it by going back to N or P and pushing the key to start the engine then there is something wrong and a trip the dealer will be necessary.

Yup, no stop start and I have to move to p or n and press the key in again to start it...

Well I can categorically say it is NOT standard as mine does not have it. It has stalled twice on me.

Is it a UK spec car ? Mines a 3.0 quattro black edition and was built in 2012, but is 2013 my and it has s/s which was standard. I'd be amazed if yours hasn't got it too.

Im not saying it doesn't not have it but i have never heard of one without.

Start Stop with navStart stop without nav

Picture 1 has Sat Nav and Picture 2 doesnt, therefore the buttons are placed in the different places.
If you have Sat Nav and you have Start Stop the button will be where it says Audi Multimedia just underneath the multimedia word and it is like an A with a circle around it and it says off next to it. (1st pic)

If you do not have Sat Nav then the Start Stop button will be in front of the cup holder in front of the arm rest behind the gear stick (2nd pic)

EDITED POST, IGNORE THE LARGE ATTACHED IMAGE BELOW WITH THE MANUAL GEAR STICK.

If you look at this picture if you look to the left of the gear stick you will see a little vent kind of thing with a button underneath it above the nav button. Is that there on your car ? View attachment 37668

On the face lift model B8.5 the button is on the dash above the heating & vent controls, from memory it's an A with line through it.

It will be my typo that is causing confusion. Mines a 2011 not 2012. Post edited.

It doesn't have stop start. Sorry for the confusion.

Is it still under warranty ? Take it to an Audi dealer, there is definitely something wrong. If it's out out of warranty you may get it fixed for free as good will as it not long out.

Thanks all, booked in for the 21st so we'll see what comes. Manufacturers warranty runs out of the 15th September this year so just got it in.

Just collected the car. They were unable to find anything wrong, nothing logged in the ECU and it didnt do anything whilst on their test drive.

The clunkyness is to be expected apparently.

The only thing they could offer was to have the car in for an extended time (a week) to see if it happens.

So no updates, no resets of anything. Just nothing. So looks like a stall is to be expected.

surely if yours is a 3.0tdi then it will be the 6 speed dsg, I've never ever stalled my 2.0tfsi, ok its a different year but how is it even possible to stall a dsg!?

Yup, it's possible :) I've done it twice now. And come "close" a few other times but it saved itself.

(Its the 7 speed DSG in mine)

Well, it's defo 7 speed. Or I have a numerically dyslexic ECU that counts from 1 to 7 on the dashboard :)

I was under the impression the 6 speed was more robust than the 7 speed or are we talking about the longitudinal 7 speed as is in the rs5?

I don't think the 6 speed had a high enough torque rating to work with the 3.0 tdi did it? How did you save yourself cma, knock it into neutral?

After the shock of it stalling on me, it said on the dash, put in neutral or Park to restart. Its embarrasing enough to stall a manual let alone an auto

Well, an update, while my car was in Bedford for having a new sunroof seal fitted I asked them to have a look at the gearbox issue. They tried twice to replicate with no joy but luckily on the 3rd attempt an error came up in the system. It seems I have a faulty EGR Cooler and will be replaced.

No idea how this ties in with the stalling/nearly stalling symptoms but I'm awaiting more technical feedback from them as to how this might cause the issues I had.

Luckily this is all under warranty and not going to cost me or the dealer anything.

Anyone know the cost of the parts and the labour time for a job like this?

Did you manage to resolve your issue? i have a similar issue where it stalls when dropping to 2nd to 1st.
