Hi guys , new here so be gentle. Just picked up my 2011 S4 yesterday and so far impressed , said hello on the welcome page. But is it possible to play music from my iphone5 through the car as i can only seem to use it for calls. The car has the Nav unit ....any help appreciated

Yep.

Not sure what version of the MMI you need to have, I have HDD 3G and can stream down from mobile apps such as Deezer, via BluTooth onto the MMI.

Pair your blutooth up, if you want to play music that's stored locally on the phone you should be able to to to the Media section of the MMI and chose "source" - blutooth should be an option. Once you do this you should be able to access any available music.

If you don't have the right MMI for it then you can connect the phone direct to the Audi Music Interface, but you need to buy a cable that connects your phone into the AMI port in the glove box - you can get these from tinterweb.

Thanks opelfruit , going by what ive searched on here i have the 3g mmi but must not be the right one as when i go to media it doesnt have the bluetooth option. My only fault with the car .... drove 1200 miles through Scandanavia yesterday listening to Norwegian , Swedish and Finnish radio stations and didnt understand a word lol

well you have a few options;

Get a SD card full of music and pop it into your SD slots
Get a cable
buy some CDs (yeah, remember those?)
learn Norwegian, Swedish or Finnish :D

Cable ordered and one of those tune2air thingys , cant believe Audi put a B&O sound system and no A2DP facility , as for learning the language not a hope lol

This is Audi you're talking about. They let you fully spec an A4 out and then charge you extra to put lights in the cabin....at least that put in floor mats :)

"you want a steering wheel? Well sir, that'll be another ££££££"

Personally I think spending an hour filling up a 32gb sdhc card of music is a much easier way of listening to music in the car than faffing about connecting the phone.
Far simpler changing tracks with the wheel on the steering wheel.
But then whatever makes you happy mate

Fair do's buddy but as far as i'm led to believe with the tune2air you dont need to connect everytime and can access all music via mmi controller plus all i listen to is podcasts and spotify ;)

Fair dues, let me know how you get on with it ... You might convert my way of thinking

Same as my 60 plate A3 Black edition. Had a Clio for year and a half when the mrs was learning to drive .
It had Bluetooth as standard.
Got the A3 home and tried to pair the phone.
Didn't have Bluetooth as it was an option until 2011.
Couldn't believe I payed 18500 for a top end car that didn't have the basics lol

Got my ami cable and Tune2Air fitted today , works seamlessly with mmi .... no more foreign radio stations :D

I agree much easier to play music from your phone, I too was pretty peed off when I got my car home and tried to play some music through the phone and it didn't work I was confused for a while why it wasn't playing. I have a new transit custom which comes with wireless streaming and can all be controlled from the steering wheel it connects when you get in and plays from where it was last playing, cumin Audi up your game a bit, even a ****** transit has more features as standard lol

How's the tune2air going? I'm curious on this, how does the thing connect in the car also does your phone connect automatically and does it work from the steering wheel? Sorry for the 10 questions lol

If you have the ami socket in the glove box then you need the cable for the old 30pin ipod/iphone and you connect the tune2air to that , pair your phone for the first time then all your music/podcasts etc are visible on your mmi screen and can control from the steering wheel. Also starts from where you left off when you go back to the car. I paid 12 quid for ami cable of ebay and made a best offer of 52 for the tune2air , well worth it i think :)
