Hi,

Has anyone fitted a EGR delete on an A3 1.6 TDi, mine is playing up and want to find the cheapest way of making it go away (removing the bulb behind the waring light not an option :p)

Hi benben

Any joy with your egr fault? I've got my own to contend with now. The glow plug / engine management light is on every day as soon as it warms up.

Audi price for replacement fitted is well over a grand :(

Got it replaced at Audi, they paid for the part and I paid labour, cost about £550 from memory, you'll have to get it done as it won't go away, sorry

That's becoming the plan, the dealer I got from is liable for the cost but liability is one thing and trying to avoid being fully stitched up.

How did you get Audi to contribute?

I've been gathering quotes at the moment although can't find many garages keen to do it.
Yet to have the conversation about how 36000 miles and this failure seems like a defect/design flaw.

I'd had the car serviced there a couple of times so when I showed my initial dissatisfaction with the situation they offered to pay for the part. I did push for more, at length, but there was no more movement and no admission of liability, just a "good will gesture" for being a regular customer. If you bought your car from there you should get the same, if it's a dealer you've had nothing to do with before I wouldn't expect anything

Oh, and there is no way you will ever get Audi to admit it is a fault / defect, they are well drilled on that one!

Cheers for the advice,

I definitely don't fall into the regular customer category and the car (new to me) has had two out of three services at a small independent so it'll be easy for Audi to put a negative spin on the quality of oil used etc. They are currently offering a price match to dealers within 15miles so I'm intending a two pronged attack on their (presumably very healthy) bottom line!

I'll post back here for others as we are not unique in needing this repair. One garage called audi for a price on the EGR part and were told two had been sold that day, another supplier keeps 4 on the shelf, this for an engine which was new in 2010!! Must be the traffic jams on motorways to blame!!
