Hi, welcome to audi-sport.net. Im sure one of the guys be along shortly. Enjoy the forum. :) x

Have a read in the faqs thread t the top of this section, there may be some useful info in there. :) x

Most likely one of the turbo's seals is leaking into the intake, unfortunately is an engine out job and best to change both at the same time... You're looking at some serious dosh to fix the issue...

Does it have to go to a specialist or can any good micanic do it and how much more or less we talking about and could i drive it still. Thanks

No need to go to a specialist but a good mechanic is needed- engine out job is not for the faint hearted and you don't want loads of screws/bolts left after the job... I would not chance it by driving it, you could possibly damage the catalitic converters as well...

So where is best place to buy the bits and how do i know it is a seal for sure

If when stood on idle for a good 5-10mins and then you give it a quick rev does it puff out blue smoke ?? If you get it in 2nd down a pretty long steap hill and just let the hill do all the work and dont touch any pedals for as long as poss except the brake if needed of couse lol then floor it if it puffs smoke its stem seals.

Also if one of the turbos is shot now would be a good time to bite the bullet and do any necessary replacements/upgrades that need done with the engine out as it could/will save you the money on labour if it needs any of it done in say 6-12 months time, also do the turbos in pairs dont just do one if youve got another motor throw them at beach buggy and get some hybrids in there for some extra ponies !!

For turbos you want to use one of the well known companies such as AET, Turbo Dynamics or Own Development. Buy new rather than recon if you can afford it. If you want to check the condition of the rings and valves one way would be to do A cylinder leek check..... this is not a compression test. The cylinders are put at TDC and air is forced into the cylinder. You will get a % of loss figure. Not a pressure figure from the piston going up and down. S4s seem to start getting up set when the losses go into double figures. As for hybrids and going faster, if your going down that root find a company who will do the whole job so that you don't get in to the normal mess of a map from here and turbos from there and it's never anyone's fault if there's a problem.

Thanks for the info Bradderz will have a look if it is the stem seals do i still have to take engine out.And if not what can b done at same time or what should i b looking out for.

Ok so had the car on a lift and when you r under it looking at the front bumper with your back to the rear the right hand side turbo has a lot of oil on and around it so does this mean it is a turbo seal somewhere? The left one is clear and dry.

Oil round turbo may just be from a leaking valve cover gasket ??

Were the DP connects to the turbo you may see oil leaking out around that connection if turbo seal has failed !!

Hi like i said new to s4 what is the DP and where on turbo is it as it looked like most of oil came from the big rubber pipe connected to the turbo but im not sure

If it's smoking blue then rocker covers gaskets have little to do with the smoke pouring out the tailpipes... I have seen many high mileage s4 with blown turbos due to faulty N75 valves...

Well i have never had an Audi S4 so all this is a bit confusing all i know is it smokes ,when its warm smokes more and there is oil around one of the turbos. So do i take engine out, valve seals, turbo seals,or rocker covers, not sure what to do?

do a compression test then pull the engine, send the turbos for a health check/rebuild then think if you want to pull the heads to change stem seals...

Ok what am i looking at to do this found some ko4s turbos for £175 for one so not sure if they r any good 36 mnt warrenty, and found an 80000 miles engin for 600 so worth buying that or stick to what i have?

No mate. That's for 1.8t. Have a look at audisrs classifieds. There are some popping up once in a while.

Expect to pay around 600 for a used pair of K04's and 1200ish for a new or refurbished pair.

If they're cheaper than that, they'll be fakes.
