as the title,

i need some help though, and googling seems to give some answers, and theres so much conflicting information, it makes things a bit difficult.

so....

the car has done 100k, should i see this as a problem? it does have full service history, first 4 at audi, then 3 at independant garages, and the final one was 95k at audi, originally i wanted one with much lower mileage but its hard to get what i want, as i want the leather seats and the bose and the red is the ideal colour and it must be an estate.

so the car has done 100k its on an 06 plate, its due a cam belt in a couple of years, and i would like to do preventative maintenance first,

what would people recommend, should i get the timing chains done, (do these need doing on a regular basis??)

should i get the fuel pump follower replaced?

what should i be looking for?

sorry for the bombardment of questions, i just want to make the right decision on this car as the last car i bought bit me on the **** badly and became a massive money pit (still is)

Watching with interest. I just joined to ask about the same car. Well not the same car but 2.0tfsi estate lol. I've had loads of VAG diesels but not a turbo petrol. I fancy the change to petrol because I'm not keen on the problems with the earlier tdi's.

Personally I'd spend a few quid on the common bits. The breather PCV valve is quite common to split the diaphragm as is the diverter valve.
The fuel pump follower is an easy fix and another cheap part that won't hurt to do. I'd also have the oil pan pick up pipe replaced and the sump cleaned out. The timing chain I would leave unless it is rattling or causing concern.

My red 2.0t estate has so far had PCV valve, diverter valve, oil pick up pipe, front control arms, front shock absorbers, lowering springs all round and front brake discs and pads.

I'm a bit anal with preventative maintenance and do all the work myself. Next job is a full 4 wheel alignment after fitting RS4 19" alloys with some new boots on.

Hope this is of some help.

Mark.

Thanks novril,

The chains don't seem to be rattling, but my biggest fear is that they fail,

The oil pickup is on my list of things to do first, along with the cambelt.

Is 100,000 miles on one of these engines something to be concerned about?

I wasn't concerned with the mileage on mine at all. Saw tons for sale with a lot more. Mine seems sweet as a nut. Though I am also trying with the idea of replacing the timing chain, prob next year if /when I do the cam belt water pump etc...

Thanks again,

I'm only paranoid after seeing loads of horror stories on the net, but then I suppose you only hear the bad stuff,

Yeah you do, touch wood mine is still a lovely car that drives like new. New suspension and wheel alignment I'm hoping will sharpen it up again.
