Hi all. I've been signed up to the forums for a few months now, have posted a couple of times but hadn't got round to introducing myself until now.

I picked my Avant up a couple of months back now, it's a 57 plate 2.0TDi 140 model. I think it has a few of the nice to have options, but I don't really know what was on offer for them spec wise. Oh, and I have no idea what this colour is, so that's my first question!

It replaces the MKIV Golf you can see lurking in the background. Engine wise it's much smoother than the Golf (PD130) but feels about the same performance wise and returns similar economy. Really pleased with the car so far although there a few bits and pieces I need/want to sort out. Already popped a Q5 rear wiper on and 4 new tyres

Other bits I need to address:

1, Need to replace the drivers door mirror glass as it's got a stick in replacement over the shattered original at the moment . If the car hasn't got heated mirrors at the moment, how tricky is it to fit?

2, I think there's a dodgy switch on the steering wheel. The "mode" button does something but the thumbwheel doesn't. It also doesn't light up sometimes, but if I press the surround part it lights up and sometimes skips the CD back to the beginning if the track! What should the button do and will a replacement just drop straight in?

3, How do I know what variation of head unit I have? I'll pop a pic up later if it helps, but it's a double din unit with satbav, Bluetooth and a 6 disc changer. I want to get an iPod module so I think it depends on which head unit this is before I can choose an adaptor.

4, Can I buy aftermarket wiper blades!? I've done a few searches and I'm sure I read somewhere that they are dealer supply only... Surely not?

Other than that I think I just need to pop that dodgy sunken parking sensor back in place and I'll be happy.

So, hello from me and sorry for all the questions!

Nice motor! The colour is Quartz Grey Metallic and the head unit you have is an RNS-E. Not sure on the other questions, sorry!

You can get Bosch wiper blades and a few others. But the Audi ones tend to be best and surprisingly sometimes the same price or cheaper as decent aftermarket. Got mine from TPS.
As for the steering wheel: left wheel changes channel right changes volume. Haven't got rnse so can't say what the buttons do but sure someone will be along soon.

Thanks for the replies, guys.

Good to know what colour I have and now I'm back off holiday I can focus in selling the Golf and sorting out my iPod connectivity knowing which head unit I have.

Allso, another thing I'd noticed, when the heating is on Econ, if I have the blower speed down low, at higher road speeds the air flow gets higher. It's not the blower speed increasing, just feels like air forcing it's way into the cabin at speed. Doesn't do it if the AC is on or recirc selected.... any thoughts?

More than likely an RNS-E, however you could have (like me) the RNS-low or RNS 5.0. This is a double-din unit with MP3 compatibility in the dash, no SD card reader, Sat-Nav and optional bluetooth module. It has a red dot-matrix display, not colour.

Just buy OEM audi ones, they're pricey (£30 a pair), however they are by far the best quality and they last a long time

Just learn how to parallel park...

My parallel parking is fine, thank you! :p
The parking sensors work ok and they do come in useful, particularly in the dark, with the tints visibility isn't great out the back. The issue is an aesthetic one, one of the sensors has gotten pushed into the bumper a bit...

So with regards to the head unit, does this definitely looks like an RNS-E?

Tried to grab an interior shot, it's not great, but then there's not much to see really, pretty standard offering.

Thanks for all your help so far guys.

I thought you meant aftermarket sensors... OEM ones look less stuck-on (although mine don't work properly?)

That is an RNS-E unit you have there, probably one of the earlier models due tot the grey knobs (think the retro-fitted newer ones have silver knobs), however I'm not sure.

Slightly jealous of your s-line seats... they didn't make them for the cab :(

Nice car you have there.

The navigation/stereo unit is definitely an RNS-E, exactly the same as the one in my 2007 3.0TDi. If I remember correctly, the thumbwheel to the left of the "Mode" button on the wheel should either scroll through and select radio stations or CD tracks. But if you press the mode button first, it then controls a connected phone. Scroll down and select phone numbers (this latter function will only apply if you have either Bluetooth or phone preparation). Not sure abour replacing it. Might be worth contacting forum legend NHN who is an expert in these matters.

Mine's also the same colour, Quartz Grey; the colour code is LY7G. That reversing sensor is slightly sunken; it should be completely flush. Are you able to get your hand in behind the bumper and jiggle it slightly?

You gotta take the rough with the smooth, the back seats look like this!

jdp1962, I've tentatively poked my arm into the bumper, it feels like the sensors are in line with the crash bar though, so access isn't great. Might help if I knew what it looked like behind here, so I know what I'm trying to grab. I'll go pic hunting...
I'm pretty sure the left hand module in my steering isn't right, I'll get hold if another a try and see if it's plug and play.
