Having had the cruise control retrofit finished on my 2004 A4 2.5tdi, when driving on the motorway I get the ESP light on after 120 miles of driving. Happened on my last 4 journeys since it was fitted, and it resets every time.

Any ideas? Haven't had chance to get somebody with VAG com to look at it yet.

Is that where you drive in a straight line, stop sharply and drive in a circle until it all resets?

Ummmmm......ok then!

In VCDS you reset the steering modules wheel alignment, which is required more so if the module was swapped over when you did the cruise control install. You also have to mod the ABS brakes module etc......but that should have all been done while going through the whole process of the install.

Have you plugged it in to diagnostics yet?

We did all of that as part of the cruise fit. I had to replace the steering control module to get the cruise stalk to work (previous module was an F variant so incompatible). Followed all of the guides, cruise works, modules correctly coded, all lights cleared once installed etc, but as I say, 120 miles into my weekly journey to work I get the ESP light 120 miles into the journey.

I thought I'd ask before I get it looked at see if there was anything I could investigate.

Plug it in and see what errors are logged if that is the case then

Just to let you know (as some people don't when they've fixed their cars) the ESP light was caused by the steering wheel being off centre by one notch. Steering wheel re-centred, problem has now gone away.

For information next time. When you bring it to a stop. Either use your handbrake or let it just come to a stop on it's own. Don't use the brakes, it's to stop the wheel turning when you apply the front brake.
