I've just removed my fuel pump to fit the S3 pump I have bit I've noticed the S3 pump has an extra inlet/outlet that isn't on the original pump... I'm guessing its the fuel return?

Do I just take this hose:

And stick it on this bit of the new pump:

Or do I need a S3 housing?...

Thanks

S3 has two fuel pumps, pretty sure the extra pipe is where it receives fuel from the other pump. Should be fine without it.

thats an outlet to feed the 2nd pump, not a return
the 2nd pump is a venturi pressure driven type thing
just point the s3 2nd outlet back into tank
as in an lcr

Ah thats it, got it the other way round. Doesn't receive fuel, sends it to the other pump.

I would guess so! Heres a picture of mine i did not too long ago. This is an S3 one though.

For ref, a pic of the LCR swirl pot - the secondary feed is the black line fed into the bottom of the swirl pot

thats a non VDO pump pictured btw.. VDO is the most commonly fitted.. and does'nt look like your pictured one

The pic is merely to illustrate how VAG themselves designed a swirl pot to fit a dual outlet pump into a single pump application

I hate to dig this thread up but I am fitting a quattro fuel pump to my 1.8t the only thing I'm unsure about is the extra pipe what should I do with it ...is it a feed for pump or a return to other tank I would like to know badly I want to bock it up

it hooks up to the pump on the PAX side fuel tank. there is already a hose and quick connect in the s3 fuel tank to which a thin hose with male connector goes to from the s3 fuel pump.... guessing your A3 won't have that receiving end there so I guess just block the nipple off at the pump

I have a golf mk4 and yes I know to blanket it off so is that pipe a feed from other tank or is it a return I do know if it sucks or pushes feel either way and if I blank it off will it not affect the running of it ?
