Whats everyones thought of this option on your car? Is it worth it or just a waste of money?

Whats everyones thought of this option on your car? Is it worth it or just a waste of money?

One word - NO!

When I completed all the deal, order, deposit, finance bit of our new S3, the Dealer went into overdrive about the benefits of having our new car having 'Supaguard' treatment. He even offered it me at £399 discounted from £549!!!

Anyway, after having to put the phone on mute for a short time to mask my laughter, I explained I would be Detailing the car properly myself. 'Oh' was the reply lol

All I would say is, to anyone contemplating this DO NOT under any circumstances have any sort of Supaguard/Autoglymn Lifeshine type products applied by the supplying garage. It's invariably badly applied by someone who doesn't really know what they are doing

DO NOT let them even do it for free either. If the Dealer is wanting to do it for free, ask for the equivalent £ in discount

If you want to get that sort of thing done, do it your self or get a Pro-Deatiler to do it

Have a look on Detailing World for advice on the DIY or the Pro-Detailer route

As always, just my opinion of course ...

Definitely I don't do it. It's a waste of money, I paid for a professional detailer who went in to the dealership to prepare my car, I didn't let the dealership do any of it but to be fair they were very good about it. That cost me £250 and for car pro quartz coating applied and g techniq on the interior. Much cheaper for a far better quality.

The product itself isn't bad, sure you can buy/use better products, but 99% of the time the issue is the monkey that applies the product that is the problem.

Given the trade cost of the product, it's reasonable value for money, but alas, sold by the dealer, it's a tremendous markup, and this is how the dealers make some money.

If you REALLY want the AG Lifeshine kit, get one off ebay £14.30 delivered & do it yourself!
(eBay item number:111441096101)

If nothing else convinces not to let the Dealer do it, the cost most certainly should ;)

As others have said really, do not do it!!! They push sell it because there is a large mark up and they are on commission for it the same as gap insurance.
Again as said above the very same products are supplied on ebay for a pittance and in all honesty you will be just as good at applying it as guy who would be doing it for £500 in the showroom.
I too am having a pro detailer visit mine before pickup, he will use superior products for £200 less that Audi wanted, they seem a bit miffed by it and I get the impression they will make it difficult but it's my choice at the end of the day

To be fair, that's just part of the kit !

I too bought both the Autoglym trade treatment kit and the 'customer' kit bag off eBay for a total less than £50 and applied it and fully detailed the car over two days immediately after delivery. I am delighted with the quality of the product and the results and SO glad I didn't have the dealer 'monkey' do it. Don't buy this product from the dealer - it's a complete rip-off!

Agreed. Save the money and take the car to a decent professional detailer instead. I had a Gtechniq new car detail done (which I'm very pleased with), but there are plenty of other options.

See the above thread....

I have taken some pictures of an actual dealer kit I got for free with my car but is worth £499 sticker price applied. This is just the initial treatment and there is a customer kit bag (which looks rather nice) to keep things looking good. The Autoglym stuff is OK but it just does not last like it claims.

As others have said, better off spending £300 odd with a proper detailer to apply the Gtechniq treatment.....it's much better and really will protect your finish for a long time.

Firstly,

Set Lifeshine aside for one moment. Regardless of the pro's and con's of Lifeshine (to which there are more cons imho) no dealership valeter will have the time to apply the product correctly. Cure times will generally be ignored. Your best bet is to find a reputable local detailer who offers 'new car protection' packages. Detailing World or Detailing Nation could help you with this.

The funny thing is, the dealer saw my XC60 (that will soon belong to my wife) and said ''well, I know not to offer you Lifeshine!'' He also agreed not to valet my S3 when its PDI'd. I also make a point of not letting the dealer wash my car when it goes in for a service.

I used to be an accredited Life Shine valeter but you have to bear in mind the vast majority of buyers aren't detailer's and never will be the product maybe over priced but so's your car, the warranty a hole host of things if however you break the service down it is good and with the pack you can top up and keep the lifeshine going as again most of the world isn't going to buy swissvax or any other overpriced product....that most DW people buy into and pay over the odds for like lifeshine at the dealers, also remember the lifeshine has to be applied by a trained person or its not registered with AG my advise seek out an accredited valeter who will do it properly like I used to do the carpet and seat treatment is good as is the silver stuff from Autosmart.

A monkey could install the AG kit I have in my garage (no offence manor13) - not sure if things have changed but the product card and warranty seal only mentions to be applied by an approved Lifeshine dealer, not a trained individual. Instructions are very straight forward and no different to many other products on the market.

That means I guess, if the dealer says it's been installed, that's good enough for the warranty. Regardless of how they did it or how long they let it cure.

I'm not convinced - I can't see how the product even applied properly can offer 12 months protection? The product does seem to make grand claims - high end stuff (that actually works) has 12 months protection tops and I'm referring to Gtechniq. I know people who have paid serious £££ for the AG treatment, followed the instructions and "topped" it up etc but still then move on to other products to enhance the finish

Unless you know what your doing with life shine which most do not then no do not get it....

Personally I'm an autoglym registered operator and I've been through the whole palaver that allows me to apply life shine correctly and professionally as a detailer. Before that I even did there other course.

It's a great product just like all there products. It's just not knowing how to use them that people do not the best results they could get.

I would say your right one application wouldn't last 12 months but then most boutique products wouldn't either imo without some form of top up. My advertising at the time slated the dealers pricing and offered a more realistic price. A trained individual is classed as a dealer as once applied you register the car on AG portal they make no distinction apart from discount on the product but that comes from the rep's not AG themselves.

My car is 'wearing' Optimum Polymer's Opti-Coat 2.0. 18 Months on and the beading is still great. At best Lifeshine will give you 6 months, at worse, weeks! I know that when my S3 arrives it will be Opti-Coat'ed along with Ventureshield applied to the bonnet, front wings and bumper. Total cost will be close to Dealer application of Lifeshine but with 50X the protection.
