What, if anything would I need to change to go to stage 1? (Apart from the re map itself)

Clutch?

I think it's just the map mate but I'm sure someone on here will tell you better. I'm looking to do it when funds allow

Just the map is ok :)

The clutch should hold up just fine, after Stage 1 though then I'd be looking at upgrading the clutch as they are prone to slipping with more power!

Thanks lads. Any air filter/induction upgrades before re map?

You can go Stage 1 with just a map! If you were looking for an Air Induction Kit then I'd recommend the ITG Maxogen or VW Racing Intake :)

I've been looking at AMD kit just for the choice of pipe colour (little anal I know lol) lots of people seem to get Revo I've noticed though

I bought it from a member on here.
Amd sell them on ebay but they're £350
If you can't pick one up second hand and thats the one you want ring Amd direct you may get a deal.

Happy revo owner here :) induction noise is insane. Just had it stage 1 remapped by shark performance and more than happy with the improvement, quoted power was 310bhp - but my car wasn't dyno'd

Yeah I was thinking about getting in touch with them direct

Stock S3 will take Stage 1 remap with no other mods needed. 310hp

Stage 2 needs Cold air intake (CIA) + exhaust down pipe/sports cat + remap 320-330hp

Stage 2+ needs Stage 2 + high pressure fuel pump (HPFP) + remap 340-360hp

Most go Stage 1 then straight to 2+

A stock S3 DSG will take 2+ without changing clutch, but I think manuals need uprated clutch to go this far. Suspension and brake upgrades are recommended as the power goes up so get your wallet out.

Over 2+ and you getting into hybrid or big turbos and other engine mods.

All depends on your budget, I'm no expert but there is a lot of good info on here. Just read some other build threads for some ideas on how far you want to go.

Nicely put mechanic.

The manual clutch is a bit on the soft side and would need swapping for something like the Sachs at Stg2 and above.

All the decent air intakes are around £300 to £350. I went with Revo, tried and tested, looks and sounds great. The induction noises are something.

Some videos in my blog too, showing intake noise during a drive by.

What is the limit of a stock dsg clutch can handle?

With software upgrades the usual limit is around 420-440lbs,after which you need new(for which read, expensive) clutch pack upgrades.
