One Thing I Really Won't Miss When I Switch To Petrol

The DPF!

I appreciate that the majority of my journeys are short urban ones and thus the DPF rarely gets a chance to clear itself so the car forces a regeneration cycle quite often. That's the nature of the beast unfortunately but I have to say that this car does it far more than my previous one ever did.

What I'm really getting sick and tired of is rolling up on the drive only for the engine fan to continue at full tilt for the next ten minutes. I live in a quiet cul-de-sac and it's just plain embarassing to have the car making that much noise on the drive, especially on a summer's evening when the neighbours have their windows open.

Just one more reason I'm switching back to petrol after 17 years!

Don't mock as you may find that after a particularly hard fast drive you will still hear that fan running after you turn off the engine...
 
yes the b8 petrol is a fukker for the fan run on
 
I've had the DPF continue a regeneration after I've reached my destination maybe 3 times in the past year... I don't know when it does its cycles but it seems to pick pretty well!

I never missed my tractor...TDI, thankfully wasn't a DPF!

That being said, the S3 when started up does sound a bit tractor like...however the V6 is silent until you push the pedal.
 
High pressure direct injection, nope you aren't getting away from diesel technology...
 
If your neighbours cant deal with the a sound like a fan running then you need to move house! Lol

Couldnt agree more plus its going to get more and more expensive as time goes on to run a diesel. i cant see it being too much longer before the EU regulations make it hard to even make diesel engines!
 
I think we're probably at the back-end of the 'diesel golden age' now.

Various governments heavily incentivised the public and the manufacturers to move to diesel on the basis of it being a cheap and easy fix for CO2 emissions. Now that the emphasis is moving towards local pollution in the form of particulates I think they're going to fall out of favour very quickly (and therefore become more heavily taxed) so I could easily envisage myself going back to petrol in a few years purely on a cost basis.
 
Whilst they are still cheap I'm happy to run mine. Everything is going to get more and more expensive as time goes on, petrol cars included

None of my neighbours have said a word tbh, I just feel self-conscious and embarassed at the racket it makes. It's not a quiet noise!
