Hi All,

This isn't on my Audi but my parents Renault Espace 1.9 DCI so I'm hoping someone can offer some advise.

Basically they had sluggish acceleration and flat spots so we decided to clean the EGR valve upon recommendation. When we got the EGR valve out it was free and not too built up, but the connection to the manifold its self was severely clogged and had no passage to the intake manifold. We cleaned it all up, but a fair amount of the buildup fell through the inlet manifold which we didn't think much of.

The car started and kicked out hellish amounts of black smoke and revved nicely. but after about 15 seconds of trying to clear its lungs it slowed right down and i think some of the deposits got pulled through.

The engine now revs very slowly and does not build up boost. the turbo is spooling as upon removal of the pressure sensor you can feel the air being blown out. but it can never build up pressure at high revs. The vacuum line is working and i can manually open and close the waste gate, but i can't check to see if its fully closing.

Any advise would be greatly appreciated!

Have you taken it for a drive to see if it clears at all?

It's a long shot but could be worth a go.. Using some Wynn's Diesel EGR Valve Cleaner to dissolve the carbon that got fell through. You just take off the air intake pipe (after the airbox) and give it a blast whilst the engine is running.

I had to take it to the garage, its un-driveable. it just wants to stall. I did actually buy some of that to try but even in little bursts it stalled.

Fingers crossed we hear something back shortly which doesn't cost them an arm and a leg lol

Thanks for your advice anyhow :)

Ahh what a pain! And no worries buddy - how did it go down at the garage?

They actually got it back today. They removed the turbo, and cleaned it up and changed the rear sections of the exhaust as the silencer had clogged up with carbon from us cleaning the EGR. It cost £270 which to be honest I thought was reasonable considering they had it for almost a week. It's going on a 100 mile drive at the weekend so I guess it will be a good test then haha!

Ahh what a b*****d! At least it was just good clean required rather than a replacement turbo.. And £270 isn't too bad considering. Glad it's all sorted mate :icon thumright:
