Hi guys,

I've bought a set of Seat LCR 4-pot Brembos (calipers, discs, pads, lines, carriers) for my S3 and although they have recently been refurbished I want to get them powder coated in a different colour. So I'm intending to replace the piston dust boots & wiper seals when I get this done.

A few questions;

I do not intend separating the 2 caliper halves during the refurb, to avoid disturbing the seal between them. Would you agree with this?

What's the correct part number for the seal kit?

I've already researched how to remove and replace the pistons & seals on these calipers - any further tips to share?

Should they be powder coated with pistons & seals removed or in place? If in place, I'd do this with the current seals and then replace them afterwards.

Any advice gratefully received.

Definately remove the seals etc then coat them as they get baked.
plus will be easier neater job.
i made up some pipework which allowed me to blow the pistons out with an air pump.
made it loads easier!!

Looks fairly straightforward to do once the pistons are out. The dust boots & wiper seals just attach into the groove around the pistons and into the groove in the caliper, right?

What sort of pipework did you make up?

yeh. its really obvious when you have them in front of you. remember you have small and large bores so get them right.
you would think its impossible to get wrong yet i bought my lcr calipers as refurbished and because they had put the small seals in the big holes and they were too small and slack in the hole they cut them!! un real!!!
when you remove the dust covers its easy enough but a little tip.
theres a tiny hole which allows you to pry them out.i used a 1mm allen key. the holes are on the inside of each piston bore. if you cant find it ill try posting a pic. not using the hole will butcher them a bit. plus its lots harder!

Yes, I'm aware of the different sized piston bores and the little holes you mention. My calipers really do look to be in great shape, but I'm in no rush to fit them so want to ensure they're 100% before doing so.

Any idea of the seal kit part number / where to get this from?

Also torque settings for the bleed screws & brake line?

The piston sizes in the LCR brembos are 36 & 40mm I think - you can check easily enough though

When I did my calipers I bought dustboots and seals from a website www.porschecalipers.com, the website no longer exists but as the name suggests it was a Porsche website with loads of different sized seals for Porsche brembo calipers - it seemed to be that a brembo piston is a brembo piston - doesn't matter if its from a Porsche or a seat leon - so I bought them and they fitted fine and had the same part numbers

given that the website no longer exists I would suggest http://www.design911.co.uk/

36mm:

It might be best to ring them though just to clarify what is in each kit because I can't work out quite whats what there

Their the same calipers as found on the mk1 focus rs, I used to have a website for them but lost it. Just search for mk focus rs brembo rebuild kit.
