I do apologise as appreciate this information might be available amongst the forum but I have a fair few questions which are quite detailed.

Still looking for an S3 and had a wishlist of various extras I wanted. Im starting to realise compromises might be necessary. Of the extras wanted (flat bottom MFSW, Bose, Satnav, full leather) I see Satnav as the rarest but likely the easiest to retrofit. So, questions...

(1) If I choose to source a Satnav, what Audi OEM model is the best, presumably a more up to date one than the original 2007 model? Is eBay the best place to source? Model number I should be searching for? I see the later models support bigger capacity SD cards than 4GB.

(2) Physically they appear to fit straight in but have read they require "coding" in through someone with Vagcom interface? I also need to buy an aerial for GPS?

(3) Other than the obvious benefit of satnav itself, the other attraction is MP3 track title display and easier track selection, correct? Someone also told me it powers the Bose better than the standard headunit, is it a more powerful internal amp?

(4) Frankly, is it worth the extra cost? The only OEM satnav I rate is strangely one in my works pool car, a Vauxhall Zafira! My other experience was in my MK5 Golf R32, it was shockingly bad. Do they support full postcode search?

(5) Am anticipating about £500 or am I kidding myself?

Any other tips?

Thanks in advance :)

I paid £400 for mine fitted from a retrofitter of eBay. My S3 already had bluetooth though.

If you want a good sat nav system get tomtom or tomtom app for your iPhone, I never use my Audi navigation, however the system itself with the SD card for mp3s and albums etc (32GB if mk2), big colour screen and it's integration with OEM Bluetooth etc I would still recommend the RNS-E itself, in other audis I now can't stand the lower units with their small red displays and no function other than tell you what track you're playing

I have the latest RSN-E in my 2012 S3 and to be honest I think it's rubbish! It's a very old design which hasn't got full postcode search and the phone connectivity is limited in its functions unless you have the holder in the armrest. My girlfriends old Fiat 500 system was loads better and now her Ford Fiesta ST SYNC absolutely wipes the floor with it! If you're set on getting an RSN-E then get the latest one with full voice command control via MFSW which was an optional extra as this would make it more up to date and far easier to use.
As for retrofitting/purchasing then there's a few site sponsors that offer very good services but personally I'd put my money into a stand alone nav and seperate Parrot Bluetooth/music system.

Thanks for the feedback guys, the consensus seems clear. With the standard headunit, do track names show on the little computer between speedo/rev counter?

Does this apply to both MP3 CD and connected iPod? As you can tell, I enjoy listening to music in the car.

If it's a double din big screen concert or symphony it will play MP3 CDs and will show tracks on the DIS
