Hi all,

now rethinking audi connect and hill hold assist ( ordered stronic ) and do I really need them. I might then add pano roof.

thoughts? It's the look of the pano roof I like - does it add much more to the drive and the feel inside the cabin?

i will save £390 but then offset that by getting the pano roof.

aaahhn. Really not sure

si

I'd suggest keeping HHA as it's only £90. I've heard great things about Connect but it depends if you're into that sort of thing. It wasn't for me. The only comment I have about the roof is that I saw a saloon at the showroom that had its pano roof open and IMO it was really ugly. It actually protruded from the back of the roof. But as a pano roof owner I have to say it's great from the inside!

I have hill hold assist on my current Audi A4 & TBH it's one thing I think I would find hard to live without, s-tronic or no s-tronic

Can't comment on panno roof as I haven't seen one on an A3/S3 saloon

Audi connect is not my thing TBH

But I would suggest that you Have to spec what suits you & not what suits other

As always, just my opinion of course ... :hi:

I love my pano roof!

I don't have it fully open very much but tilting it is lovely to get the air moving.

I takes the inside of the car a much brighter, happier place to be.

Highly recommended!!!

I've found little use with HHA and didn't even think to spec it:ohmy:

My current car has a sunroof which does make the space feel more open and roomy, I didn't spec it for the next one though.

I don't have Pano Roof but would like it on days like this...

I have Connect and while I don't use it that much when I do need it it is a cool option, I could live with out it but it is a nice have. Also it's great to have the mobile hot spot on the car!

Hope this helps!

I don't spend enough time in a car to bother ordering the top spec nav tech type stuff, thisbisbmy first white car and I'd never thought of a panoramic roof before until I drove the A45 with one and it was great, for me it was also about breaking up the colour of the white aswell.

Like the look but.
My partner got hit by the back door of a lorry which hit her car just below roof line shattering the windscreen.
Panno roof fitted and it would be all over her as well.
A one off maybe but I feel safer with a metal roof over my head........

I didn't order the Pano roof because I found it took away a slight amount of headroom and I didn't feel it the hole was as big as I would have liked.

Subjective subject. But I didn't go for it as it's a pricey piece of kit.

Nice to have to roof off a car but, let's be honest, you could buy a used soft top for the price of the pano roof.

Save your money and buy an mx5 as a second car for sunny days.

HHA?? Is this any benefit at all if driving s-tronic?

Covered in many other threads but apparently it is a perfect match. You just stop, take your foot off the brake, and HHA will hold the car stationary until you press the throttle. No need to use the handbrake ever again.

I have a s-tronic, and if stopping on a hill, stop on the brake, hold on the brake and then switch from brake to accelerator to move off with zero roll back.

Never had to use the hand brake.

Although.... I do believe that I have felt the rear brakes helping out, from time to time, without my instigation....

All true, but this is nothing to do with what Audi call HHA. It's more correctly just called HA.

In fact I see Audi now officially call it Hold Assist. I am sure they used to list it as Hill Hold Assist in some brochures, even though it has nothing at all to do with hills. I think this is where the confusion lies. I am sure mcnallys means HA as the hill hold you describe is standard anyway.

My 2p, keep the hold assist option (£90) and ditch the pano roof AND audi connect .. I spec'd lunar silver to make the cabin less of a black hole, and if your humming about audi connect then I think that's your answer already ... that means it's either an option that's just a nice to have/pointless/expensive/will get used twice during your time with the car

I've gone down the must have every option numerous times before, but never again, expensive, never get your money back and (for my needs anyway) wasted ..

You know what - you are dead right! Mind has been made up - keeping HHA and ditching the pano roof & connect, but I am so in love with the SS seats, they just have to stay and with a 2 yr old and lunar, would be a nightmare!

Your S3 looks amazing - great spec and the chrome is so much better looking with Sepang than the Black Pack/Optics (I originally considered)

Excellent, glad I could be of help ..

I guess with my S3, I sat down and really thought what was a must have, and what was a nice to have, and what was a 'if I didn't care about the money' option ..

Once I decided version, gearbox, colour outside, colour inside, the only thing I really had to have was an uprated stereo, as I thought the standard version was poor. I wasn't even too concerned with the comfort pack tbh but thought for resale it would help not to be totally basic.

I really do wonder whether day-to-day anyone gets more enjoyment from driving a fully loaded S3, compared to one that's absolutely basic S3 :racer:

McNallys have you already ordered the car? If so I would be interested to know if your changes to the order push your build date back significantly. The reason that I ask is that my dealer said that they had just changed the spec of an S3 and it got pushed back by three months.

Out of all my extras, the panoramic roof has been the best. I have it open every day and it really enhances the look of the car.

Audi connect can create compatibility problems with your phone over bluetooth - I would not pay for it.

Hill hold - not sure why this isn't standard for automatic cars, although for start stop its pointless (you need to keep your foot on brake to keep engine off on my A6 anyway).

I added pano right at the last minute.. couldnt resist it! Not got it yet but personally I think it looks so much better in pics and vids I've seen. There's a really good test drive in the mountains on YT with a pano roof.. looks amazing!

Edit - here's the vid.. enjoy! 2015 Audi S3 Sedan ► official YouCar road test - YouTube

I agree it does look amazing, but I still think it looks rather odd when it's open. Not that you will care, you'll be enjoying it from the inside!

yeah i've seen a merc with it open and it did look a little weird.. doubt I'll open it much, I just the like being able to look up. I'll just be trying not to enjoy the view too much whilst driving! :)

You get hill hold (3 second version) as standard on all 8Vs

Hold Assist is the 'hold as long as you want' option.

Not pointless with start/stop. Works fine.

You can stop and not trigger hold assist; hold on brake pedal and creep.
You can stop and keep engine running - hold assist engaged.
You can stop and have start stop activate. Removing foot from brake pedal does not start engine. (Different from A6 & BMW where foot has to remain on brake pedal to keep engine off).

It all depends on how much pressure you have on the brake pedal at the moment you come to a stop. Cadence brake and with practice you can choose which the car will do.

You made the right choice.. you'd be full of regret if you didnt take it.. and what's an extra £20 or per month really.. just drive it a little softer on long journeys and you'll get that back in fuel :)
